177.0. "between the dawn and the dark of night" by OCTOBR::GRABAZS (grow the scorched ground green) Mon Jul 29 1991 13:21

well, I was taking care of my little sweetheart
of a niece on Friday as I have been on Thursdays
and Fridays all summer long. She really is an
easy baby but she IS a baby and therefore likes
to be held and moved around alot when she's awake.
I'm used to my kids keeping themselves occupied so
consequently I find taking care of an infant very
time-consuming. Friday afternoon, Julia went down
for a long nap and I picked up my guitar to do something
	for myself for awhile...
I was going thru my limited repertoire and at one point
I was playing "Ripple" and suddenly the words I have
listened to or sung so many times before jumped out and
took on a different meaning to me...
I was playing and singing and all of a sudden the words
started kind of talking about the afterlife to me...and it
was then that I realized (and I wouldn't have been aware of
it if someone in this file had not mentioned it last week)
that Friday was the 1 year anniversary of Brent's passing...
so, I started the song over and started listening to
the words with this thought in mind...that it is
about a spiritual "presence" and how it can affect me
	in the here-and-now...

	 Ripple

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine,
and my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
would you hear my voice come thru the music,
would you hold it near as it were your own?

	 It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
	 perhaps they're better left unsung.
	 I don't know, don't really care
let there be songs to fill the air.

	 Ripple in still water,
when there is no pebble tossed,
	 nor wind to blow.

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
if your cup is full may it be again,
let it be known there is a fountain,
that was not made by the hands of men.

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
and if you go no one may follow,
that path is for your steps alone.

	 Ripple in still water,
when there is no pebble tossed,
	 nor wind to blow.

You who choose, to lead must follow,
but if you fall you fall alone,
if you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.

    Debess,

I can see the message coming fommr either the here and now,.. or
from "the other side"... I always tend to treast it as a here and
now kind of thing,.. but your observation certainly stands to reason.
I think its more interesting taking this new perspective....but its
equally beautiful and meaningful from either I would say.
