154.1 | Name that JGB tape = ??-??-79; also, name those songs | BIODTL::FERGUSON | the rainbow has a beard | Tue Apr 23 1991 22:06 | 33 |
| I have a JGB tape that I can't place. I got the tape from a DEChead
about 2 years ago. Anyways, the date on the tape is 6/8/79 and it is labeled
"Reconstruction", "Rio Theatre".
So, I checked my DB II. They did not play on 6/8/79. The
Reconstruction part seems right. They played at the Rio Theatre on 3-11-79,
4-6-79, and 7-20-79. The tape came w/ no set list. I listened to it today
and this is what I put together. Btw, this tape is a soundboard and it is
very clean! Anything in parentheses are guesses on my part; things that are
not in parentheses are certain.
Side A:
(end of a song; not sung by Jerry)
That's What Love Will Make You Do
(very jazzy instrumental; no singing; lots of trumpet)
(Gonna Make Things Better??? - not sung by Jerry)
(I'll Take a Melody??? - sung by Jerry)
Side B:
(Feel like dancing all night long???? -or- Dance With Me????
-- not sung by jerry --)
Strugglin' Man
--- possible cut here; not totally certain ---
(Very Jazzy instrumental; very long; no vocals)
(Jazzy song; not sung by jerry;)
Dear Prudence [ cut about 1 minute into what was going to be
one hell of an awesome dear prudence. anyone have the
rest of this show???? ]
That's all I have. If any one can help, reply here!
THanks, JC

I have the same tape. Keep in mind that the first Garciabase was just that:
the first Garciabase.
Deadbase V, due this summer, should contain Garciabase II.

154.9 | Need to ID a non-Dead concert | NECSC::LEVY | 57 channels & nothing's on | Wed Jan 22 1992 07:29 | 16 |
| I've received a very nice audience recording of an acoustic show from the
Fall of '90 featuring Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, and Bruce Stringbean.
The tape says the show was in Los Angeles. It's some sort of benefit concert.
Anyone know:
- Date?
- Venue?
- What the benefit was for?
Thanks,
~dave

| I think Bobbb knows this, or is that where you got the tape? I hear
the that show the last time we skied together. But he's out doing the
melted water activity for a week. I wouldn't mind being in that place,
but I'll be happy to ski instead.

154.11 | next question is; anyone have a tape? :-) | LEDS::MRNGDU::YETTO | discover the wonders of nature | Tue May 12 1992 11:33 | 16 |
|
I am looking (for Dave) for the date of a "killer Killer KILLER" Shakedown.
He had it on tape as a Philler, until it got stolen. ;^( Anyway, here are
some facts....
it was played before 1987 (when the tape was given to Dave)
Brent sang on it (making it ~1980-87?)
Bob, Jerry and Brent were trading off the line "... I can hear it beat
out loud ... " to a point where where Bob and Brent were just screaming.
This happened in the beginning of the song - before the first jam.
Can anyone identify this song/show? Thanks if you can, and even if you can't!
Lisa

1982 had some *killer* shakedowns. Was their a lot of interplay between
Jerry and Brent where Jerry would play a line, then Brent would play the
same line ? It's very distinguishable from '82. Philly 4/6/82 and
8/3/82 come to mind (search my-tapes.lis ;-).
Carrier Dome/Syracuse 10/20/84 was also a major Shakedown.
Don't know if these are related to the one you're looking for though.
I don't remember the vocal interplay you described; I guess I'll have
to check ;-)

| My fave Shakedown I can remember is 12/31/81,.. New Years...
Very long. I don't think its the one you're looking for Lisa,..
I rememebr it being "too cool" rather than "too hot",.. I like
"cool" "jazzy" stuff so,..
But hey,..maybe what Ithink is cool is really hot? Let me check my
discombobulator and get back to you...

154.15 | Help dating bootleg picturedisk... | FOUNDR::OUIMETTE | Eyes of the World | Fri Aug 25 1995 10:44 | 47 |
| All,
I was digging through my boxes of vinyl, looking for some old albums of
Jerry's that I hadn't listened to in a long, long time. I found an old
bootleg record I had forgotten I had, and am looking for some help
finding the concert; the album itself is a "picture disk", clear vinyl,
with a picture of uncle sam/skeleton in the center, no writing on
either side. I remember when I bought it, years ago, I had no clue what
might be on it (neither did the record store owner), but I knew it
would be the Dead...
It's an all _acoustic_ Dead concert, as follows:
One side:
Jerry saying "guitars louder in the monitors, please, Bob"
Don't ease me in
Know you Rider
Friend of the devil
Dire Wolf
Beat it on down the line
Black Peter
Other side:
Candyman (only 1 verse)
Cumberland Blues
Deep Elem blues
Jerry says "Gospel time", Bob says "everybody take off your hats"
Jerry:"We're gonna use a couple new riders, for this here gospel
number"
Gospel song: "Take Jesus with you/True Companion"?
Uncle John's Band
Bob: "We're gonna knock off and bring on the New Riders, and then the
electric Grateful Dead will be back"
- Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? :^) Thanks in advance...

154.18 | used to listen to this a lot... | QUARRY::petert | rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty | Tue Aug 29 1995 14:04 | 11 |
| 5/2/70 to be more precise. Somewhere I've got all 3 sets, including the NRPS
set, where Jerry and Bob come out and help. For the longest time, I had only
The acoustic and the electric sets, and there was a song on there sung by
Bob that I just couldn't place. "Once I was a slave at the Sawmill.
Talk about a dollar, talk about a dollar
yes and women always will..."
When I finally got the NRPS set, it turned out to be a NRPS song with
Bob doing the vocals. Definitely a nice show.
