153.0. "Deadheads on Public TV" by FORTSC::CHABAN () Tue Apr 23 1991 19:42

Did anyone catch the Dead and Deadhead documentaries on KQED in San
    Francisco?

I caught a bit of It. Came in about 9:15, and they were playing the
"Foolish Heart" video. Not too long after that, they went into a
pledge break. About twenty minutes into the break, I realized it was
silly to keep watching, since what they were eventually going into
was the So Far video, which we've already got at home. It sounded like
they were going to play the video uncut an uninterrupted, have another
(groan) pledge break, and then go into the documentary on deadheads
about midnight. Didn't stay up for it, so I don't know how good it was.
Was it their own, or maybe something from DTV (are they still around)?

Not to digress or anything ;-), but have you noticed that KQED tends to
only play dead related stuff during their pledge drives, but on those
pledge nights they really hype about how much they cater to deadheads?
I wish their silent drive had been successful, so we'd only have to put
up with 5 minutes per hour of people begging for money, rather than
what feels like 50% of whats on the tube during pledge drives.

I caught the latter part of it when I found out that my housemate's
TV *does* get KQED (we never get much of anything else up in La Honda
- aka Couch Potato Hell 8-). The Deadhead documentary was the film
Rebecca Adams (that's the woman that was talking) put together from
her Deadheads 101...errr..I mean, Sociology class "field trip" (7
Dead shows). It was the first time I've seen most of the Dead
M-TV type videos. I was at Laguna Seca during the filming of the
Touch of Grey video and saw them setting up th skeleton puppets on
the stage, but never got to see the final product - it's pretty wild!!
I thought the "Hell in a Bucket" video was hilarious. It's not
everyday that you get to see Bobby tied up and getting whipped by a
beautiful woman dressed in leather and chains 8-).
