    Well, looks like I'm headed to Salt Lake City in 2 weeks for a fun
    filled, action packed week of skiing.
    
    Cheap trip.  $500 bucks total for lodging and airfare.  
    
    We got an extra bedroom available if any other DECheads are sick of the
    lousy New England skiing this year.  Got a nice place with it's own
    private hot tub very close to the canyon access roads.

    what's the deal with booze at Utah ski resorts???? 

    
    Beer and wine is sold in most convenience stores (~3.5%).
    
    Liquor stores are state controlled, just like New Hampshire. Scattered
    about the state.
    
    Pubs, bars and breweries exist.  Lot's of BYOB type establishments.
    
    We're staying about 1 mile from one of Salt Lake City's few liquor
    stores!!!!! %-)

Anyhow, just had to say I had an EXCELLENT day at Sunday River this
past friday.  A bit scratchy in the a.m. but around 10:30ish the
sun came out.  Very very good time.  Conditions were fast.  A bit
mushy at the bottom but we only went there on the way out.  

It was my first time there - I/we usually go to the Loaf if we
go that far.  Sunday River gets a thumbs up from me.  Lots of excellent
cruisers,  steeps and bumps.

I hate bumps though.  On the first run my buddy Gerry says,  "Hap,
no bumps",  me says "yah".  Then I turned the corner and it was frozen
volkswagons as far as the eye could see (ok,  there was a turn in the 
trail 30 yeards away).   That was my only fall of the day ...  

what a blasT!  No lines!  $43 is stiff but it was worth it...
it's about 170 miles from home....so tough day trip but again worth it.

I tried that Dave,   If you look closely it only lists Sunday River
for the most part.  The only deal Sunday R cuts is a "learn to ski"
thing. ...  

So I couldn't use my coupons...

  The few times we went up there we took advantage of the ski and stay packages 
for 69 bones.  So I fergot all about not using the ski3 cards.  Those slopeside 
condo packages are a purty good deal though, I must say.  

	This was my first year up to SR as well and agreed, an excellent 
place.  It's crazy looking so far off into the distance and seeing even more
trails!!!

    Utah rocks out in the skiing and rage'ing departments!!!
    
    It was beyond my dreams and the beauty of the mountains is absolutely 
    incredible.  The skiing is steeper than I expected, A LOT STEEPER!!!  
    We're talking verticle here folks.  
    
    Anyways...I put a more detailed skiing oriented report in the skiing 
    notesfile... Note 8.L

not a bad trip.
i hurt myself real good on the last day and will be hurt for
4-6 wks longer!

big bummer.
left wrist is ina splint, right shoulder/arm muscles all
ripped/torn up..

ouch...


for extreme/steeps, i did not see anything in utah that
rivaled the king (IMO) of steeps/extreme: crested butte.
well, maybe that one cornice i went off ... nice 20' drop into
about a 60 degree pitch about 20' wide....

Just back in to work from a few days up to Sunday River.  Friday and
Saturday were EXCELLENT weather days....very warm.  I would've like
colder nights to firm the snow up a bit more for some early morning
decent runs but it was mashed potatoes from the get go.  We had to go
steep where most of the slush was actually pushed out and you could
get an edge in the "ice".  

A lot of fun!!  Skiied in the fog and rain yesterday morning for 2 hours
and finished up around 10:30 ... ran to guest services and pleaded 
with em for a voucher for next year...they are nice!

ps.  It was the first time Rae and I had the chance to ski since Sam was
born....

so that was nice!

    
    I was at Cannon on Saturday....it was an outrageously excellent day.
    
    The fun and the sun made the New England folks loosen up.  See SKIING
