2.0. "(I) Guidelines for behavior (rules...if you will)" by NECSC::LEVY (Across the lazy river) Sun Jan 06 1991 14:48
1. NOTE unto others as you would have them NOTE unto you...
personal attacks, insults, name calling, flagrant antagonism
or disregard for the feelings and sensitivities of the general
community will not be tolerated...
2. Informational, non-digressive notes - (I)
Notes that are intended to present information and in which
digressions are discouraged should include "(I)" in the title.
If you create a note in which you would like to see discussion
stay on topic, you are also responsible for creating a "companion
note" in which general discussion may take place. The companion
note should contain "(GD)" in the title and should reference the
original note.
It will be the assumption of the moderators that information in the
(GD) notes is of no lasting value. These may be purged at any time.
In addition the author is responsible "policing" that note (ie
moderators will not intervene to halt/move discussion without the
authors' request or permission).
The intention here is *NOT* to have every note marked with a (I) or a
(GD). These markings should be used judiciously to retain their
usefulness.
3. Personal responsibility
As a companion piece to #1, you are responsible for what you write and
will be held accountable for "doing the right thing" in terms of
correcting the situation. For instance, if someone objects to explicit
or foul language in a note that *you* write, the moderator will set the
note hidden and inform the author as to why. If a suitable solution
cannot be found (rephrasing of note, substitution of symbols for swear
words etc...) or if the author shows no consideration for the other
member(s) of the community, then the note will be deleted...
4. The moderators will not restrict/control or otherwise censor
regulate a discussion based solely on subject matter... for
instance, a woman's right to choose an abortion may be a
sensitive or offensive topic for some, but the mod's will not
intervene based on the subject matter alone... intervention
will be based on the *content* of the discussion...
5. Moderators will be empowered to act on their own, but matters
requiring moderator intervention that could affect the moderation
policy of the file or could dramatically affect a discussion wil be
discussed amongst some of the moderators before "permanent" action is
taken.
