I was an avid runner for approximately 5 years (and LOVED it!) but after numerous injuries, I decided to stick to low impact workouts. I am currently into racewalking and considering doing some light running once or twice a week. My sister is a beginner runner and has gotten me excited about it once again. I'll probably do some fun runs with her as well. I use the treadmills at a gym near my home now, but I'm moving and my new gym will be about 25 minutes from my home. For this reason and because I'm tired of waiting for a free treadmill at the gym and getting kicked off long before my daily mileage has been reached, I'm looking at buying a treadmill for home. I have only used gym treadmills which are, of course, top of the line. I've heard people say they enjoy their $500 treadmills but I don't know if it would be enough for me. I walk an average of 4-5 times a week, 5-8 miles, and a 11.5-12 minute mile. I'm thinking of investing in a good quality treadmill. I stopped by Omni Fitness in Nashua today to begin my search. The one I might consider is the "Life Fitness 4500HR". It's on sale for $2395 (ahhh!!) with 6 months interest free financing. There were others I liked more but cost around $3500!! I knew this wouldn't be easy :^). Can anyone give me some pointers on what to look for and places to get the best buy?? Thanks in advance!! Kim

1406.1 | We have a "Spirit" | MROA::BERGART | Jeff-the-ref | Mon Apr 14 1997 14:21 | 15 |
I believe that we have a "Spirit" brand treadmill which we bought from Plum walking centers before they went out of business. I think we paid less than $2K on sale. My wife loves it because 1) It starts at Zero MPH 2) It starts while she's on it (ie no power issues) 3) It senses its own speed so that it does not slow down everytime she takes a step 4) It's very sturdy and rugged (she is a large person), 5) It's easy to program a count down timed workout, and 6) she can electronically raise the incline to get her proper workout rather than constantly increasing the speed. I don't use it because I find the exactness of the pace a pain at higher speeds, and I get too hot running indoors! It does have the advantage of "give" every time you step. I've never had sore shins after using it... |
