769.0. "Spanning tree and loop detection" by ACISS2::GIENKO () Wed Feb 19 1997 15:11
I have a question pertaining to loop detection on a LANbridge 200
or any of our other bridge products. I have an understanding of
how the spanning-tree algorithm detects loops, however what happens
if the bridge see the same address on both ports (in the case of
a 200) or multiple ports with one of our other bridges. Will
the bridge sense that there is a loop and put one of the ports
in backup, will it have 2 entries in the forwarding table with
the same address but different ports or will it keep updating
one entry in the forwarding table indicating which port is the
source of the address. I believe this could only happen if there
are parallel devices not participating in the spanning tree or
if there is an intermittant malfunction in a bridge participating
in the spanning tree.
Thanks for your input,
Mike
