I am trying to install NT V4.0 on a AS2100 4/200. I have applied firmware update from the FW CD V3.8. ECU V1.8 for NT. However NT installation is unable to determine the type of CPU and give a series of processor type to choose. Unfortunately none seem to be the AS2100 4/200. If I were to install V3.51 it also reports that it is unable to determine the CPU type, however in this case there is an option for the AS2100 4/200. By choosing it I am able to install V3.51 succesfully. What could be the problem here? It is the NVRAM/arc/hal bug. Is this fixed in the V3.8 CD. The system was one that was formerly running OpenVMS, with 4 processors, 1GB memory. Justin

If you are running ARC V4.50 or above, then this is expected. As part of the fix for the NVRAM problem, we change the platform id name that was passed to NT. As a result, setup will not recognize the machine when you attempt to install NT. When you install NT V4.0, make sure you have the HAL kit with you as you will need it. When setup pops up a message saying that it does not recognize your machine, choose Others and put the floppy that has the HAL kit into the floppy drive. Press Enter and setup will load the HAL from the floppy. FYI... the HAL kit is available on the web at http://www.windows.digital.com/support/sysoft.asp. Scott | |||||

Thanks Scott, that was the problem. With the HAL kit all is fine. |
