SYSTEM: Alphaserver 2100 4/200 running fw 4.43 Windows nt 3.51 Also installed PCI ehternet controller pci fddi controller EISA vga 2 EISA SWXCR controllere 2 1740 adaptec EISA controllers Customer is trying to install 2 adaptec 1740 scsi EISA controllers and is having a problem with 1.2 gb seagate disks. If a cdrom or tape is attached to either Adaptec 1740 it works , Nt can see the devices..... But as soon as a Seagate disk is attached the system hangs on boot The disks are 1.2gb. The disk has its activity led on at the hang. Aside from SCSI bus problems of termination or bus length are their any issues to conserned with. Such as 1. 1740 firmware shoud be g2 ?? This has not been confirmed. I think this fixed issues with disks over 1.0gb I think this may be the problem but were waiting for the customer to shutdown to verify the revision. 2. base address selection from ECU on installation The customer seems to think this is the problem he sees the io module with a base address of 11000 and the 2 adapted controllers use cc000 and d000. He think their is a conflict but the ECU should resolve this at installation. 3. port selection different from firmware to operating system ( ie PKA0 at the firmware level is the io module; on boot would one of the Adaptec controllers assume PKA0. Its hard to confirm this with NT and ARC console 4. Support for seagate disks attached to 1740 controller? Any suggestions welcome

Hi Brian, Did your customer try removing the JUMPER J6 pin#1 ? If you remove J6 pin#1 then floppy controller on the board will be disabled and 1740's will become 1742's. Only difference between 1740 and 1742 is that one jumper but ECU will use different .cfg files to congigure them. Remove the jumpers and run ECU again and see what happens. Mitz | |||||

According to the call record the problem was the seagate disk was a wide drive. Brian |
