2579.0. "Pedestal to RackMount Update?" by MSDOA::16.179.16.37::KLOPEZ (Ay, Caramba!) Wed Apr 16 1997 11:29

Hello,

Is there an "easy" way to upgrade the pedestal 2100 to a
rackmount? Perhaps a difficult way?

Our customer wants to change their pedestal to a rackmount,
but they would like to preserve as much as posible from their
current configuration.

I'm sure there must be someone who has gone through this
pain already ...

You can save the "plug in" modules such as CPUs, memory,EISA and PCI
cards. They will a new CPU enclosure and the 2 associated backplanes
found in the rackmount instead of the single backplane in the pedestal.
They will also need new storage boxes for the SW drives to plug into.
The CD, floppy and tape drive (only one) can be moved from the cabinet.

    All new cabling is required.

I don't know if CSS has a kit for converting a pedestal system to a
rack mount but you may want to contact Susan Bazarnick, who is the
Product Manager for the Rack mount 2100.

    HI

Yes indeed, several customers have requested this and we have a
    solution for:

    2100Ped to 2100RM Use 2T-BA741-AA

    2100A Ped to 2100A RM	Use 2T-BA744-AA

These require CSS custom quote through your geography and a return of
the empty pedestal enclosure to Digital. All CPUs, memory, floppy, CD
and one tape can move over. The person quoting this for you can help
with configure questions (cables, enclosures) on the SW disks.

Thanks, for your quick response.

I guess they would get more for their money if they upgrade to the
4000's RM.
