Hi there, I have a customer situation that has me scratching my head. I have a customer with a lot of 2100's, but he has one machine that has two 275MHz processors with V4.5 ARC installed. When he goes to install Windows NT V3.51 from CD-ROM, he is prompted for the AlphaServer 2100 Hardware Support Disk, in other words, it appears to be asking for the HAL for this configuration. Now, I have not gone to see this system, but doesn't this seem an awful strange thing to be happening? I can't imagine why an EV4 box would be doing thing; I thought setup would just load the HAL that's on the CD-ROM. Any help would be appreciated, Jim

Just an update to this string. The customer discovered that a corrupted file on the NT CD-ROM (!?) was the cause of this problem. Apparently, this was a real (ie legal) CD-ROM but it had been used and abused a few times. Thanks, Jim | |||||

If you are running ARC V4.50 or above on your machines, you will see this problem when you attempt to install NT V3.51 or NT V4.0. In ARC V4.50, we change the platform id that was passed to NT. As a result, setup will not recognized these machines. This problem has been fixed for NT V5.0. The change was introduced to make installing NT V4.0 on the AS2x00 and AS2100A machines less painful since the HAL on the CD causes machines with the 120 nsec EEPROM parts to hang and have corrupted NVRAM settings when setup is ran.
