I cannot seem to get the latest firmware installed on my as2100. i followed the direx on the website; when i go to install the new firmware, i can see the floppy light on, it stays on as it reads fwupdate.exe, then the light goes off and the system just hangs. any ideas? note: same result from the >>> console or the arc menu (update firmare) also tried a difference floppy disk, with no luck the back of the system claims it to be 2100 A 500MP i used as2100a_e5_v4_7.exe thanks, jc

Hi jc 2100 A 500mp ? 500mp was old terminology for 4/xxx systems before 2100A series what model type cpu is displayed on the OCP display ?? 4/xxx or 5/xxx if 4/xxx and a 2100a system should be using as2100a_e4_v4_7.exe instead and name it fwupdate.exe on floppy and use the update firmare selection from the ARC menu if 2100 4/xxx use as2100_e4_v4_7.exe has more eisa then pci slots if 2100 5/xxx use as2100_e5_v4_7.exe has more eisa then pci slots if 2100A 4/xxx use as2100A_e4_v4_7.exe has more pci then eisa slots if 2100A 5/xxx use as2100A_e5_v4_7.exe has more pci then eisa slots jim hutmacher mvhs colorado csc 800-354-9000 ext 25561

DEC 2100 A500 MP is the original Sable. It's equivalent to an AlphaServer 2100 4/200 (not a 2100A, which came much later).

it has been very difficult for me to get NT installed on my alpha. i have to get this update, that update, install this, update that, etc, etc, etc, and furthermore, the bloody model number in the back didn't help me a bit !!! and i'm a digital employee to boot, with more than 4 years using NT and installing it on all sorts of iron. i can't imagine the frustration customers go through trying to get their older alphas working. digital needs to make this easier on the customer, i think, if you want to make alpha most successful. i guess i was spoiled when i got my Compac Proliant pentuim pro 200. i hooked the wires up, put the nt cd rom in the drive, and bingo, NT was installed. no updates. no hassles. that should be the standard alpha goes by. thanks for the help. jc |
