2547.0. "Can't close doors with HSD10 installed in cabinet" by GUIDUK::SOMER (Turgan Somer - SEO06 - DTN 548-6439) Mon Mar 03 1997 20:04

Hello There,

I really need some help here. I don't know if I am being had by
the customer or if this is a Digital screw up. I can't believe we would
build something where we can't close the doors. Please share your thoughts
and advice.

Thanks.

Below is a discussion on the DEC Alpha server 2000 chassis problem
from the customer.

HISTORY:

We ordered two Alpha Server 2000 for a fixed price customer project
to be delivered here within the year. The 2000 server fit the needs in price
and performance. We have never ordered 2000 before only 1000 and 2100
class systems. In the 2000 Server configuration there is a redundant DSSI
bus. Each Server has mounted in it an HSD10 controller in the internal
BA36 box. We always mount all drive equipment in this internal box for the
bundle warranty. I just reviewed again the option guide to make sure this
was acceptable and if there are any notes flagging problems (none).

PROBLEM:

The front doors do not shut with the HSD10s installed. This is
BEFORE any cabling is attached! When the cables are attached the front cover
doors will need at lease 3 to 4 inches more of clearance. I do not want to
slice out a hole in the front cover. I cannot deliver a system to my
customer like this. The 2000 has been out in the field for years now. This
problem must have came up before. Does DEC have a solution?

    Are you using the right angle cables off of the HSD10?

2547.2Configuration is not supported and supportedGUIDUK::SOMERTurgan Somer - SEO06 - DTN 548-6439Tue Mar 04 1997 17:358

    I don't think the door will close with right-end connectors either.
    The bulk head on the HSD10 is already bumping against the cabinet door
    without any connectors.

    Incidentally, according to the StorageWorks people this configuration
    is not supported at all. Unfortunately, The Systems and Options catalog
    page 2.63, shows it supported. Go figure!
