1169.0. "What is the latest patch for V2.1b?" by HGOVC::KENNETH () Wed Oct 16 1996 07:18

Hi,

I would like to know what is the latest patch for Polycenter Scheduler V2.1B?

There is a customer report that job is not distributed evenly to cluster
member by Scheduler. Jobs always distributed to the "default" node even
it has lowing rating. Load balancing is truned on.

Since the customer is running V2.1B-2, I would like the customer install
the latest patch first. I check our TIMA TOOLS, we can find a patch call
VSCHED_E07B021, but from TIMA STAR I saw VSCHED_E0903B021 and VSCHED_E07902.
Actually which patch is the latest or more stable?

By the way, anyone faced my problem before?

Thanks for your help in advance.

1169.1make sure custom load balancing is not turned onRUMOR::FALEKex-TU58 KingWed Oct 16 1996 12:5110
    They don't have "custom load balancing" turned on by any chance?

    That is activated by doing something like
    	$ define/sys/exec nsched$custom_load_balance TRUE
    (see comments in scheduler$startup.com for details)

    In that case the default node spawns a customer supplied procedure to
    determine the specific node to run each job on. If there is an error
    running the customer supplied procedure, the job runs on the "default"
    node.   (just something to check...)
1169.2VSCHED_E09B021 or VSCHED_E0903B021?HGOVC::KENNETHMon Oct 28 1996 23:2513
    Hi,

    The customer has already truned on load balancing. But anyway, the
    server version is too old, V2.1b-2. So I would like to send the latest
    patch to the customer. I found VSCHED_E0903B021 and VSCHED_E09B021.
    Which one should I send to the customer?

    I found VSCHED_E09B021 has savesets A,B,C.. and VSCHED_E0903B021 only
    one saveset A.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Both. VSCHED_E0903B021 is a patch kit for VSCHED_E09B021.

    VSCHED_E09B021 is the latest ECO available.

    Engineering requested VSCHED_E0903B021 not be sent to customers
    unless it is a fix to specific problem addressed in VSCHED_E0903B021.

    Hi Mark,

    It's too late, the customer has install both VSCHED_E09B021 and
    VSCHED_E0903B021.

    Is there any problem for VSCHED_E0903B021?

    Thanks,

1169.7Scheduler V2.2 is shipping ... by MCSHLFS00::ERIC_SEric Sonneveld MCS - B.O. IS HollandThu Jan 30 1997 02:3111
MCS told me they got V2.2 for Alpha as well as VAX. Don't know the status for
internal/external distribution. let you know.
The most importent difference is Alpha kit supports the callable interface and
the Alpha kit supports OpenVMS V6.2 and V7.0 official (meaning scheduler V2.1 on
Alpha is not supported ??)

    Btw I was hired recently by Ca to do an implementation of Scheduler on
    ALpha since CA7 does not run on alpha yet. They still shipped V2.1B-7
    to the customer....

    Just read the update of all ex-polycenter products in the polycenter
    conference at NOTED
    There are three recent good articles about the status of the products
