POLYCENTER Scheduler

Product Function: Workload Management 

Product Name: POLYCENTER Scheduler for Digital UNIX 

Product Strategy: 

Workload management automates the scheduling, execution, monitoring, and recovery of production jobs such
as payroll, manufacturing, resource planning, and system management functions. Users want to be able to
manage production processing and job synchronization across multiple platforms over the LAN and WAN from
a single workstation. 

POLYCENTER Scheduler has provided this functionality on the Digital UNIX platform. However, because
POLYCENTER Scheduler for Digital UNIX uses a third-party database, CA is unable to offer or ship this
product. CA will provide support for existing clients for a minimum of 12 months and as long as business needs
dictate. 

CA-Unicenter is recognized as the industry standard enterprise management solution for mission critical
computing. Within the production environment, scheduling is a key function and is available today through
CA-Unicenter Workload Scheduling. Clients with POLYCENTER Scheduler on Digital UNIX should move as
soon as possible to this solution so as to be positioned for CA-Unicenter TNG. 

Stage 1: 

The ability to use Workload Scheduler in CA-Unicenter positions the clients well for the move to
CA-Unicenter TNG. 

When: CA-Unicenter for Digital UNIX available now. 

Stage 2: 

CA-Unicenter TNG will include complete workload management for the enterprise.

Workload management automates the scheduling, execution, monitoring and recovery of production jobs, such
as payroll, manufacturing, resource planning, and system management functions. Users require management of
production processing and job synchronization across multiple platforms over the LAN and WAN from a single
workstation. 

POLYCENTER Scheduler has provided this functionality on the OpenVMS platform. 

CA-Unicenter is recognized as the industry standard enterprise management solution for mission critical
computing. Within the production environment, scheduling is a key function and is available today through
CA-Unicenter Workload Scheduling. Scheduling for OpenVMS will soon be available via CA-Unicenter and,
in the future, will be part of the comprehensive platform coverage provided by CA-Unicenter TNG. 

Stage 1: 

The new release of POLYCENTER Scheduler will add a Motif interface and support OpenVMS V6.2 and V7.0.

When: Beta in December, 1996 

Stage 2: 

Develop Windows NT GUI for POLYCENTER Scheduler with the look and feel of CA-Unicenter. This will
enable single-console administration for POLYCENTER OpenVMS point products and CA-Unicenter. 

Incorporate POLYCENTER Scheduler into the new CA-Unicenter for OpenVMS. POLYCENTER Scheduler
functionality will be integrated over time with other CA-Unicenter management functions such as: 

   1.Events 
   2.Security 
   3.Single Sign-on 
   4.Reports 

The GUI provides a single point of administration with a consistent look and feel from Windows NT. 

When: Beta in December, 1996 

Stage 3: 

CA-Unicenter TNG will support workload scheduling for OpenVMS.
