1098.0. "Scheduler V3.0 on Digital Unix and Infomix" by WOTVAX::DAVIESG (Guy Davies) Wed May 15 1996 12:07

    I am trying to build a Polycenter Tools System Management Centre on a
    Digital Unix v3.2d system. Part of this exercise involves the Scheduler
    product, which on loading says it won't run without DCERTS or INFOMIX.

    DCERTS is easy (installed from July 1995 software CDs), my only query
    being is DCE v1.3 late enough to support all of Scheduler v3.0 (its the
    latest version of DCE I have); however, INFOMIX is another matter.

    Is this product internally available, what are the licensing issues, do
    I need to know anything about the product (er, relational databases
    aren't my thing!?!). I am suppossed to be demoing this to customers next
    week so need to get the product running!

    If this is the wrong notes conference, please accept my appologies!

    Thanks,

    Guy

1098.1Database is embedded in productMUZICK::MORIARTYThu May 16 1996 11:1612

    The version of DCE should have no problem with communicating
    as the network protocol. The Scheduler product has it own
    built in database and is entirely transparent to the end
    user. If you review the installation guide you will see only
    reference to having DCE RTS (run time services) installed.

    I think you are possibly confused by the Field Test requirement
    of needing to have a third party database INFORMIX installed
    to use the Scheduler Server component. The officially released
    version of the Scheduler Server component has its own embedded
    database.
1098.2INFORMIX error was from July 1995 CD release!WOTVAX::DAVIESGGuy DaviesFri May 17 1996 10:3615
    The DCE bit is clear and I'm happy that what I've now got loaded will
    run happily with scheduler.

    As for the INFORMIX issue, I have had to get a special license and kit
    from the product manager (Raminder Bhatia) to get this to run. The kit
    from CD2 of the Software Products (july 1995) repeatedly failed on
    loading the server software saying that INFORMIX was not loaded.

    This is not a field test, I was attempting to load what has been
    officially released. I understand that the kit I have now been sent has
    INFORMIX built into it.

    Thanks

1098.3No database in July CD ReleaseMUZICK::MORIARTYFri May 17 1996 12:216

    To reiterate my understanding the July CD Release does NOT
    have the embedded database product for the Server component.
    The kit with the embedded database is only available via
    the IPO release. This can be obtained from the product manager
    (Raminder Bhatia). This must be the kit you want.
1098.4Spot On!WOTVAX::DAVIESGGuy DaviesFri May 17 1996 13:407
    Yes, this is exactly the situation.

    Sorry, if I misunderstood the previous comment (.1). The software on
    the CD does NOT have the embedded database and you have to get the kit
    from the Product Manager.

The product on the JULY CD IS NOT SUPPORTED by Digital.. The product
is only shipped on an IPO and you must buy the cd.

This is due to the third party database.
