830.0. "Ever heard of a "CSLG" license?" by CSC32::S_WASKEWICZ () Mon Apr 28 1997 14:49

I recently took a customer call stating that their new "CSLG" license
from DIGITAL no longer works for the optical jukebox, when updated with a new
license.
CSLG licenses are apparently a single "campus-wide" type license that gives
a college or education site "unlimited" usage for a fixed fee, and that
supposedly saves them money over multiple licenses. According to the customer,
they expire yearly, requiring an updated license once a year.

Problem:
Specifically, JKCONFIG complained of "no license found for this product"
when restarting the system software.

We find that the PRODUCER was now DEC as opposed to his older license
that listed the PRODUCER as PERCEPTICS.

Solution:
He reinstalled the old CSLG license, and it worked OK. Since its working
correctly with the old license, and we can find no expiration date on it,
I told him to continue using it for now, and I'd research the issue, and
get back to him.

Any info on why we changed the PRODUCER field on this particular license?
And what are the technical issues with these type licenses, regarding OSMS/OSDS?

I haven't found much information of use on how or why Digital produces
the licenses the way it does. If you find anyone that know, please
    forward the information.

>>And what are the technical issues with these type licenses, regarding
OSMS/OSDS?

The OSDS/OSMS software only looks for OSDS or OSMS licenses that have
a producer of PERCEPTICS. If the producer field is anything else it
    will not work.

Sound like one part of Digital shooting another part at the customers
expense.

Thanks, I just recieved a call from George Pappas, and he explained
what CSLG is all about. I've also sent the customer's name and number
to George at his request, as he will try to work out any licensing
issues one-on-one, possibly with the account team.
