827.0. "Problem with RWZ52 on OVMS V6.2." by HGOM30::THANHSON () Fri Apr 25 1997 06:37

    Hi,

       A customer has installed a RWZ52 on OVMS V6.2 (OSDS V3.3).
       The installation was successful (I have verified using
    LASERWARE_IVP ). The optical disk can be read OK, but written only small
    files ( about 150 blocks).
       When we try to write bigger files, sometime it seems to be hang (the
    activity's LED keeps on blinking, but there seem be no activity sound
    from the disk and it stops there, we have to force the system reboot).
    Sometime, It comes out with some massages:

    %SYSTEM-I-MOUNTVER, HG$DKA0: is offline. Mount verification in progress

    %%%%%%%%%%%% OPCOM 25-APR-1997 12:43 %%%%%%%%%%%%%%
    DEVICE HG$DKA0: is offline.
    Mount verification is in progress.

    %COPY-E-WRITEERR, error writing ODA0:[000000]temp.gro;2

    %SYSTEM-I-MOUNTVER, HG$DKA0: has completed mount verification.

    -RMS-F-WER, File write error.

    -SYSTEM-F-TIMEOUT , device timeout

    Above massages come out when I try to copy a file named temp.gro from DKA0
    to ODA0 ( This is the optical device). HG is name of the system This file
    is 500 blocks.

    I do not really know what happens, how come the DKA0 becomes offline....

    If anyone can help ?

    This is ugent, please help ASAP.

    Thanks in advance,

    Son.

827.1provide system info pleaseTAPE::SENEKERHead banging causes brain mushFri Apr 25 1997 10:407
    It sounds like you have the system disk and the optical on the same
    SCSI bus but to let us understand what your environment is, please
    describe the system configuration, such as system type, number of
    SCSI buses, other SCSI devices on the bus, Alpha or VAX, cluster or
    non-cluster, the type of media being used, etc.

    Hi,

       Sorry for the information shortage, following is customer's
    configuration:-

                  DEC2000 Model 300 AXP
                  2 x RZ28 HDD (DKA0, DKA300)
    		  1 x TKZ09 Tape Drive (MKA500)
                  1 x RWZ52 Optical Disk (WDA100)
                  OVMS V6.2 AXP
                  OSDS V3.3

       This machine has one SCSI bus, non-cluster environment.

       Please clarify !

    Thanks,

    Son.

827.3upgrade first, then IPMT if still brokenTAPE::SENEKERHead banging causes brain mushMon Apr 28 1997 10:5913
    Son,

    It sounds like the interaction between optical disk and the system
    disk are causing problems on the SCSI bus. I recommend that you
    upgrade the OSDS software to V3.4 and retest. If that doesn't
    correct the problem, log an IPMT case against the OSDS product.

    If you log an IPMT case, I will need the information you included in
    .0 and .2 plus any VMS patches applied and a sample command file that
    will generate the errors. Also, please execute a $ANAL/SYS and do a
    SHOW DEV PK. Include the name of the driver.

827.4LEFTY::CWILLIAMSCD or not CD, that's the questionMon May 05 1997 12:256
    Also, you will need to give a complete physical description of the
    configuration, including all bus segments, tabletop boxes, and
    terminators.
