800.1 | Yes, for OSMS V3.4 for VMS | TAPE::SENEKER | Head banging causes brain mush | Wed Mar 05 1997 12:32 | 18 |
| OSMS has supported the use of SCSI addresses with non-zero logical unit
number for a long time. The RW557 was not supported by the OSMS software
until V3.4. OSMS V3.4 support allows the RW557 to be used in "address"
or "lun" mode.
FYI: The RW555, RW552, and RW551 jukeboxes also have LUN mode as an
option and OSMS V3.4 allows the same "address" or "lun" mode
usage for these jukeboxes as well.
The change that OSMS V3.4 had, as compared to earlier releases, was
that it's installation command procedure changed to "try" to make
the configuration (and building of startup command files) easier.
The earlier releases of OSMS allowed you to configure devices using
SCSI addresses that contained a non-zero logical unit number but the
questions asked were much different.

800.2 | Thanks...More information? | KERNEL::CLARK | STRUGGLING AGAINST GRAVITY... | Thu Mar 06 1997 04:50 | 17 |
| Rob...
Thanks for the reply.
Although I have attempted to configure a LUN situation
(RV65/SONY-WDA610) I have not had too much success in making it work
reliably. I tried version 3.2, 3.3, and 3.3-1, all on VAX 6.1.
I had drawn the (mistaken) conclusion that this, combined with the
lack of discussion, and the very brief topic in the user or install
manuals for OSMS suggested that it was a hangover from Laserstar, and
no longer supported.
Is there more information available on configuring LUN's than
appears in the quoted manuals? I'd be grateful for a pointer.
Regards...

800.3 | vendor unique use of SCSI | TAPE::SENEKER | Head banging causes brain mush | Thu Mar 06 1997 09:41 | 12 |
| Dave,
As part of OSMS/LaserStar documentation there is nothing more on
LUN's. Part of your problem may be caused by the way the SONY-WDA610
does it's addressing internal to the jukebox. Sony choose to
implement a "vendor unique" way to use the SCSI protocol to control
the jukebox.
If needed why don't you continue an old or start a new notes stream
asking questions about setup of the RV65/SONY-WDA610.

<<<Sony choose to implement a "vendor unique" way to use the SCSI

You 'aint kiddin'!!! I tried all combinations of SCSI ID and LUN's
together with 3.2, 3.3, and 3.3-1 to try to get some sort of
functionality to work.
I ended up being able to manipulate JBA0, but no other device.
Although the Juke is supposed to present itself as a humungeous
single optical drive (I think!) OSMS still seems to configure multiple
JBA devices. The fact that only JBA0 seems to respond makes me suspect
that it's behaving as a single big drive, but that OSMS still thinks
it's addressing lots of platters.

Well I was kind of embarrased...I mean who plays with
RV65's/WDA610's these days?...But I'll swallow my embarrasment and do
just that!
