| Thanx for the info, the KZPSA together with the BN31W cable is the right
choice for the RW546.
Now I have another little problem: We try to use the OptiServer software from
KOM with
the RW546. I got the information that the RW546 can be used in two different
emulation modes. One is compatible to HP, the other not.
Is there anyone who knows a little bit more about that two modes (In the
manual I couldn't find anything about that)? If yes, how we can switch them?
Regards,
Roland

764.3 | Why KOM OptiServer? | TAPE::SENEKER | Head banging causes brain mush | Mon Feb 10 1997 10:20 | 6 |
| Again, what operating system is this. I hope it is NT since Digital
offers a software solution for VMS and DUNIX. I guess I am saying...
"Why do you expect us to know about KOM OptiServer software?".

764.4 | It's NT. | MANIOK::WARTENBERG | The Handy Man | Mon Feb 10 1997 10:39 | 10 |

Rob,
the operating system on this AlphaServer is NT, don't worry.
But, the switch of the two emulation modes of the RW546 should
be independent of the optical driver software, shouldn't it ?

764.5 | Are you talking about config 40 & 41? | SUBSYS::alcor.shr.dec.com::smith | Apps Engineer | Tue Feb 11 1997 09:19 | 13 |

Hi Roland,
I believe (according to the Qual Engineer for the MO
products) that the Config 40 & Config 41 settings that allow you to
toggle Jukebox & Drive ID Strings is no longer implimented on the 4X
Jukeboxes... In other words (and I'll verify this) you can no longer
(with the RW546, RW551, RW552, RW555, and RW557) toggle the Config 40
& 41 parameters to have the box & drives identify themselves as HP
jukeboxes, they can ONLY identify themselves by their Digital names.

764.6 | | LEFTY::CWILLIAMS | CD or not CD, that's the question | Tue Feb 11 1997 10:33 | 9 |
| Huh? Sounds bogus to me... We did not change the controllers in the
JB's for the 4x JB's, so it should still be there....
It will totally screw up the OEM/Distribution business if it is not
there...

764.7 | how to switch the mode? | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Roland Wartenberg | Wed Feb 12 1997 05:54 | 13 |
| Thanx for the info. So there's still one question: How I can switch the
emulation mode
from Digital mode to HP mode? I don't find anything about that in the User's
Guide of the StowageWorks Opical Disk Jukebox Family. In Appendix B I can find
the configuration selections for the RW525 (which are the same as for the
RW546 I hope), but for some numbers the Options are "Used by Service
Personnel. Do not attempt ...".
Anyone out there who knows the right numbers for the emulation mode and who
knows the right values?
Thanx in advance,
Roland

764.8 | RW546/C1100F still has CONFIG 40 | TAPE::SENEKER | Head banging causes brain mush | Wed Feb 12 1997 09:48 | 6 |
| I have a RW546 in my office. I used CONFIG 40 to toggle the setting
between "RW546"="OFF" and "C1100F"="ON". Send a message to Mike
(SUBSYS::) Cross and/or Ashok (SUBSYS::) VICHARE asking about the
availablilty of hardware manuals for the RW546.

764.9 | CONFIG 41 exists also... | CSC32::S_WASKEWICZ | | Mon Feb 17 1997 10:58 | 8 |

And the RW546 has CONFIG 41 also.
The HP manual says CONFIG 41
"Toggles between the two OEM modes of using parity;
ON (parity on) is the OEM-unique mode.
OFF (parity off) is the OEM normal mode.

764.10 | Hmmm... | SUBSYS::alcor.shr.dec.com::smith | Apps Engineer | Tue Feb 18 1997 09:51 | 8 |
| Apparently since the RW546 doesn't have a modified controller
card it still has the config 40/41 feature... According to the
Project Engineer the 551/552 & 555/557 (which have the new
controllers that support LUN mode support) no longer have this
feature...

764.11 | 551/552 still have it | MANIOK::WARTENBERG | The Handy Man | Fri Mar 14 1997 14:54 | 5 |
| During the last few weeks I installed a 551 and a 552 at different
customer sites. Both jukebox still have the 40/41 feature.
