Hi, my customer asked me about what the best upgrade he could make in his XL Server 590 (PC795): add memory, upgrade CPU, add disks? The hardware configuration is: 64MB of memory (4x 16MB), and 2GB of disk. The customer's Server is running SCO UNIX Enterprise, and a XBased atabase with 40 terminals. The customer told me it is very slow. May this environment be supported by XL Server 590? Would you please give a suggestion about it? Thanks in advance, Marcia

Suggest you first check why the performance it slow. Could be CPU, I/O to disk, memory, LAN. Use sar to check CPU use and memory use, a LAN analyser like IRIS to check load on Ethernet. This type of data should tell you the way to go. Cheers, rudi | |||||

I agree with a good system analysis. If they need more power, there is an upgrade path to bring the system all the way up to a 200Mhz DP Prioris XL. Kevin |
