749.0. "Joe Jackson fans?" by BEMUS::KELLEY () Thu Dec 21 1995 16:42

I didn't see a posting for Joe Jackson, so I
felt obligated to exercise my civic duty and
post something about Mr. Jackson, and not the
other infamous Mr. Jackson.

I really didn't get into his music until college.
I always knew him for Is She Really Going out with Him
and Stepping Out. By the way, Night and Day is a terrific
album.

One of the best songwriters of the 80s. Could write
a catchy melody with biting lyrics and back it up
with competent musicians. He always has the best sound
for keyboards on his albums. Did anyone ever hear better on
a pop album?

I just listened to Blaze of Glory the other night. An
underappreciated concept album. Great stuff.

Anyone know what he's doing now, since his Night Music CD?

Joe ranks way up there on my favorite artist list. His Laughter and
Lust CD is still one of my favorite CD's (great stuff!!). His last
CD Night Music I could of lived without, but his music is still top
    notch!

Did you see him on the Laughter and Lust tour?
I saw him at the Orpheum Theater on a sweltering night
in July. No airconditioning in that joint. Even Joe
said it's too (expletive) hot in here! that night.

A great show. I also saw him on the Blaze of Glory tour
at Great Woods. He was a last minute addition to their schedule
in '89.

I agree that Night Music wasn't one of his better albums.
Still some of the songs are memorable. I saw a special
on I think TBS that showed him playing some of those songs.
I liked the arrangements.

The band I'm in always listens to Jumping Jive when we're packing
    up. A great motivator!!

Jumpin Jive used to help make
