Well, I managed to find a copy of this CD at Newbury Comics. If you're
not into jazz, hit next unseen :).
This band has a real funk groove going, and actually touches a lot of
styles including reggae. Lots of wah-wah & guitar. The liner reads:
T.J. Kirk plays the music of Thelonious Monk, James Brown, and
Rahsaan Roland Kirk.

| Interesting... Charlie Hunter has a couple of recent releases of his
own, with the Charlie Hunter Trio, that have gotten significant (good)
press. He's also been featured a couple of times in Guitar Player
magazine. No bassist on the trio recordings, Charlie handles both
duties simultaneously, and the stuff is similar to what you describe
here; kinda alternative/jazz/groove thang
