744.0. "T.J. Kirk" by OCTAVE::VIGNEAULT (Minister of chiles) Mon Nov 13 1995 08:35

    I heard a band being broadcast live on WBUR this weekend called T.J.
    Kirk. It was a kind of bluesy/jazz guitar oriented band with 3
    guitarists I believe. I thought they were excellent. Has anyone ever
    heard of them ? They just released an album on Warner Bros. label
    called T.J. Kirk.

    Well, I managed to find a copy of this CD at Newbury Comics. If you're
    not into jazz, hit next unseen :).

     This band has a real funk groove going, and actually touches a lot of
    styles including reggae. Lots of wah-wah & guitar. The liner reads:

     T.J. Kirk plays the music of Thelonious Monk, James Brown, and
    Rahsaan Roland Kirk.

    Tunes:

    Interesting... Charlie Hunter has a couple of recent releases of his
    own, with the Charlie Hunter Trio, that have gotten significant (good)
    press. He's also been featured a couple of times in Guitar Player
    magazine. No bassist on the trio recordings, Charlie handles both
    duties simultaneously, and the stuff is similar to what you describe
    here; kinda alternative/jazz/groove thang
