The soundtrack from the show that Brian Wilson did for the Disney channel - "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times"- has just been released. Although his singing voice is just a shadow of what it used to be, it is still a very listenable album. There is a mix of old and new tunes, with a lot of guest musicians including his daughters Carnie and ? There is also a tape from 1976 that Wilson recorded during the period when he had retreated from the world. Jim

They were interviewing Brian Wilson on Fresh Air (NPR) a couple of weeks ago and playing tracks from his new album. Actually, I thought of it as a rather embarassing effort myself. He's a shadow of the singer he once was. Sounded like he had all he could do to _try_ and remain on tune. jmo, Larry | |||||

I could not disagree more. I have the disc, and I think it is *great*. Granted, he most definitely is not who he once was (especially his voice !), but you can still see his incredible genius in the harmonies and arrangements. The biggest surprise to me was his remake of "The Warmth of the Sun" which would be one of the last songs I would ever expect him to try to redo...it is great.... I highly recommend this disc. Oh yea, he has another album of all new material (done with Pet Sounds/Smile collaborator Van Dyke Parks) called "Orange Crate Art" coming out next month. -tim |
