725.0. "Sarah McLachlan" by MAGIC::CRAVEN (Who watches the Watchmen?) Tue Jul 18 1995 12:38

Well... I don't see a topic devoted to her, so I might as well start
one. Though she may have been mentioned in other topics, but I
wouldn't know, since I just joined the conference.

Most of the people I've talked to have never even heard of this
beautiful young singer, so I was wondering if anyone on here had.

I also was wondering if anyone knew anything about her (besides the
fact that she's Canadian) or where to write fan mail to her or
anything. I've already checked out Nettwerk's Web page, but it doesn't
seem to say too much about her, just her albums. But I didn't really
get a chance to look too closely yet.

Anyhow... the topic is Sarah McLachlan... discuss. ;)

I really liked "Solace", and "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" did not
disappoint either. Never have heard her '89 debut, nor have I made
it to a show of hers.

The music shows heavy Peter Gabriel influence - and I think that even
the bass tones resemble Tony Levin ! (I specifically checked the
musician list to see if he was there - nope).

The video for "Into the Fire" is novel - singing the song while covered
in a grey mud, as if in a rain forest. She appears to be wearing only
the mud, so it might be erotic to some. But it seems to resist making
    her a sex object.

Oooh... thanks for the Web sites for Sarah. Stupid me... didn't even
remember to check Yahoo. I wonder if I e-mail Nettwerk if they'd tell
me how to write fan mail. I noticed that they talk about her fan club
on there, but it seemed kinda expensive for a fan club. But I'd have
    to think about it.

Some time I'll have to pick up "Solace". Some time when I have money
    to spend. ;)

I've never seen the "Into the Fire" video. I've actually never seen
ANY of her videos. The video tape I bought just had concert footage
and studio stuff. Where did you see the one for "Into the Fire"?

I wish I could see a show of hers... She played with The Chieftains at
Great Woods this Tuesday, but I couldn't go...

BTW, a recent episode of Due South (that's the one about the Canadian
Mounty who winds up working the beat in Chicago) used quite a few
cuts from Fumbling Towards Ecstacy (The song Posession was used
as a kind of theme for the whole show). Weird show, great soundtrack.

I think I saw "Into the Fire" on MTV or VH-1 when "Solace" was current.

Sorry - that's not very helpful.
