    Influenced by listening on the radio a mexican influenced version of
    'Hey Joe', I bought Willy DeVille's live CD. What a nice surprise ! As
    I understood after, he's from New York and plays 'chicano rock'. One of
    his previous albums was produced by Mark Knopfler and all his previous
    albums received excellent critics. The 'live' CD is quite variated and
    all songs are excellent. Sound quality is also excellent.
    Does anyone know his other albums ?

	I have bought also "Miracle", a CD released in '88, I think. It is produced by Mark Knopfler which also plays guitar on all tracks. A very fine CD which recalls sometimes Dire Straits although it's typical Willy DeVille work. Jeff Porcaro (drums) and Chet Atkins (guitar) play also on two or three tracks. Sorin

	The first Mink DeVille album, released around '77 or '78, is a classic. The group was originally marketed as 'punk' because they debuted right in the thick of the punk wave - but their sound is definitely not punk. I guess I'd describe it as a mix of white-boy-soul with some Latin influenced overtones. I've worn out 2 vinyl copies of the album and I'm on a CD now. After all these years, I still play it at least once a month. 'Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl' received airplay at the time and is probably the most familiar tune off the album. Some other great songs on it are 'Spanish Stroll' and my favorite 'She's So Tough'. Just look for the magnificent pompadour on the cover. I think Lyle Lovett copied Willie DeVille. Louise

	Re. Louise I think you qualified very well Mink/Willy DeVille. I've seen other albums (Le Chat Bleu, Savoir Faire, Victory Mixture, I Call Your Name etc.) and I'll try to listen them all. I already have listened Victory Mixture and I Call Your Name. VM is dedicated to New Orleans and ICYN is a also a bluesy CD. The songs on these two CDs are not written by Willy but they have his clearly recognizable 'touch'. His version of John Lee Hooker's "I'm in the mood" on ICYN is an excellent example (voice and accoustic guitar). He's really a great musician and not only an excellent song writer. Sorin
