'discovery' and 'face the music' are buried in my collection
somewhere, and will probably gather dust till the end of time,
but 'out of the blue' and 'world record' do make occasional
flurries onto my tape deck (no cd's when i were a lad) especially
the last two minutes of "shangri-la" from 'new world record'...
the song fades out like it's slowing down, then gradually comes
back, choral work an' all. love it.
as an awkward early teen, i spent my time listening to sparks, queen
and elo...so 'out of the blue' will always hold a special memory...
but then came punk and new wave, and round the time of 'hoarce wimp'
i kinda lost all interest.
giles.
p.s. and i've a couple of old 'move' albums which once graced the deck
regularly (remember "fire brigade"?)

| My first concert! Spaceship on stage, lasers shooting thru the windows, the
works. Very impressive to a 15-year-old. ;^) I think that was the tour
in which they were accused of lip-synching.
I like the albums up to and including "A New World Record" (I played the
single "Telephone Lines" until it was almost grooveless) ... after that
the pop shmaltz was too much.

| I have a live album from them called "The Night The Lights Went Out In LA",
or something like that. It's a live album, not a bootleg but might be an
import, I forget.
It's funny someone started this topic, as I was listening to their box set
a few weeks ago and thinking that I should put a note in about them. I think
a lot of their mid-70's pop material still stands up very well today. Good
hooks, nice arrangements, lovely harmonies. Great stuff!

| I've got all their albums including the boxe set "Afterglow".
IMO, "A New World Record" was their best work.
After "Time", I really didn't care too much for anything they did.
They also did a soundtrack to a couple movies.
Zanadu and another obscure one that had one of Arnez kids in
it....

| BTW, the "Afterglow" box set is pretty cool in that almost everything I like
from them is on one CD (the middle period one), which contains almost all
their hits from the mid-70's.

I should also add ELO has performed for the soundtracks of the movie
"Xanadu" starred by ONJ (Oliver Newton John).

| Question:
In "Don't Bring Me Down" off of Discovery,
What is the word where the ? is
Don't bring me doooowwwwn .... ?
Don't bring me dowowown .... ?
Don't bring me down ... ?
Don't bring me dooowwooowown...
Does anyone have the lyrics or know the words here? Another guy
and I have a disagreement about that word.
Thanks.

| I am 99% sure that he is saying "roose". Yes, it is meaningless,
but I had the same argument with someone a couple of years ago
and I looked it up in the liner notes.
I don't have it here, but I'll check tonight...still, I am pretty
sure it is "roose"

Well the sleeve lyrics for the 'Discovery' album, where this song first
appeared, has the word as 'grroosss'. As for what it means? I have no
idea but the lack of a Capital 'G' means its obviously not meant to be
someone's name.

| I reckon it's just a sound effect just to spice up the music.
And why not?
We've had many la, la, las and hey, hey, heys.
It's good to know that there are still people listening to ELO.
