Is his latest in the same style as the previous stuff?

ex-girlfriend in the grocery store?
I used to like his music, and saw him twice in concert, but had
forgotten he existed until I read this note. Haven't thought about him
or played his music in years.

Overated singer of sappy songs wif a wispy voice. Bought a copy
of "Souvenirs" during my "folkie" phase. Ashamed to say I still have
it.

| RE: .5 .6 please bring those comments to the bashing note...thanx
I obviously am a Fogelberg fan...I don't have the Live in the West CD,
or the latest, (or the bluegrass release "High Country Snows" or ???)
but I really appreciate his music, and I have for a long time.
Souvenirs is my favorite album of his, but ya gotta love Home Free,
Netherlands, Phoenix, Twin Sons of Different Mothers, The Innocent Age.
I'm not so fond of Exiles, but I love his early stuff, and if my vinyl
copies weren't in pretty good condition, I'd have more of his CD's.
OOps, can't forget Captured Angel.
I have CD's of Souvenirs and Netherlands, and they're packaged nicely,
with all of the original liner notes and artwork in the same styles as
the albums.
He plays multi-instruments, does a lot of his own art-work,
multi-vocals...
I've seen him 3 times in concert, the best being him alone at the
Centrum. Dan, a grand piano, acoustic guitars, and some whiskey...Dan
was feelin' pretty good that night, and sounded great too....his
rendition of "The Reach" alone on 12 string was beautiful.
dull, dull dull ??? I'd say talented, talented, talented (and I
reserve that word for folks who really deserve it, unlike the media,
where everyone is supposedly so talented).
my humble opinion
p.s. I don't think Kenny Loggins compares to Dan....maybe his Loggins &
Messina material, but I don't like his "pop" stuff, just like Dan's
"pop" stuff, which I don't prefer either

530.0 says
>>>what do ya think of Dan's new record "river of souls"?
>>>what about his past records?
sounds like he is asking for opinions.

530.9 | | MAGEE::OSTIGUY | | Thu Oct 28 1993 16:15 | 6 |
| Well, I didn't ask for opinions, someone else did...but fair enough.
I have not heard River of Souls
"Love when you can, cry when you have to, be who you must, that's a
part of the plan"

I assume there is no one yet to listen his brand-new record
"river of souls".
I like his old-rec "age of innocence" though.
I've his live too.

| >Is he the one that had that really sad song about meeting his
>ex-girlfriend in the grocery store?
Yes, Lorna, that's him. "For auld lang syne", from the
Innocent Age album.
"Overrated singer of sappy songs?" Hardly. As a sappy song singer,
he can hardly be overrated. ;^) On most albums he tries to switch
between soft, sensitive ballads and meaningful rockers.
Talented? Yes. But adding whisky sounded like a good idea! :^}

| I haven't heard much of his newer stuff, but Dan is high on my list of
all-time favorite artists. I think he is one of the best songwriters
and one of the most tasteful and versatile musicians ever recorded. And
I like his voice, too. Sappy? Hardly.

530.14 | good as a folkie | VAXWRK::STHILAIRE | so why can't we? | Fri Oct 29 1993 14:37 | 10 |
| I saw him twice in concert. Once alone with just accoustic guitar and
piano, and once backed by a rock band. I thought he was much better
alone. I really enjoyed his performance when he was singing and
playing the accoustic guitar or piano. It was very nice. But, as a
rocker he just didn't seem to cut it. Compared with somebody like
Bruce Springsteen, or Tom Petty, he just didn't put out the energy I've
come to expect from a rock concert.

| Upon first listening to "River of Souls". I wasn't real impressed with
the album, but further listenings have allowed it to grow on me. On a
scale of 1 to 10, ten being tops, I originally rated it a 6, but now
it's about an 8.
I saw him Oct. 26th here in Pittsburgh. backing him up was Timothy B.
Schmit(formerly of Poco and the Eagles), Joe Vitale(used to be wif Joe
Walsh) and some other guy who was with the band he put together for
last year's tour.
He did songs from his first thru last albums(except for "High Country
Snows"). Was one of the best concerts I've been too.

I was looking at all the small print on my "Live...Greetings
from the West" and noticed that there was a comment about
a "video also available from Sony".
With Tim Weisburg, Dan with and without the band I think it
sounds like it'd be a good video. But before I go and buy it,
I thought if anyone else has a review...
