| I am a BIG fan of Blackfoot.
Have all their albums (the ones I know of).
Billy, I'm totally jealous - I would kill to open for those guys.
WOuld you please find out who is in the band these days - on the last
album that I have Charlie Hargrett had left and they brought in Ken
Hensley on keyboards (didn't he play with Ozzy?).
Is Jakson Spires and Greg T. Walker still with the band?
I've been in bands that did some of their stuff.
I am hoarding about 20 copies of their very first album "No
Reservations" - all still wrapped in plastic. I'd love to see a
Blackfoot reunion and sell these rare puppies.
I think everything from "No Reservations" up thru "Strikes" was
superlative. They are definitely one of my all-time favorites.]

| Ken Hensley may have done time with Ozzy, but he's perhaps better known
as a founding member of Uriah Heep.
What's the name of the "road" song Blackfoot did; one of their better
known tunes I believe.

You're probably referring to "Highway Song".

Or "Ride With You", from "Vertical Smiles", I think.

| Rick Medlocke was actually one of the original members of Lynyrd
Skynyrd...prior to their first album. As talented a guitarist and
vocalist as he is, he was actually LS's drummer. There are two of
his tunes on LS's First And Last album. His voice got a *lot* more
powerful by the time he got the Blackfoot thing going...kinda like
the way Craig Fuller's voice changed when he joined Little Feat after
his Pure Prarie League days.
Saw Blackfoot with Nazareth somewhere out by Leominster, and then with
Def Leppard as an opener (in their early days) at the Orpheum. When in
their prime, they were a first rate band...great musicianship and
vocals. Wouldn't mind checking them out again to see how they're doing
these days.

481.7 | "I Stand Alone" vs. "Freebird" - which is chicken, which is egg? | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | DOS Boot | Thu Aug 26 1993 12:19 | 16 |
| And here's something for you Lynyrd Skynyrd fans to chew on a bit.
It's been contended that "Freebird" is actually a rip-off of
Blackfoot's "I Stand Alone".
I believe that "I Stand Alone" WAS recorded first but of course, that
doesn't mean that it was the "rip-off" rather than the "rippee".
I only know that it's much BETTER than "Freebird", IMHO. In fact,
I hate "Freebird" and when I'm playing in a club and (inevitably)
someone screams out "Freebird!" (i.e. a request), I roll my eyes
and make it clear "no way" or at least "please submit your request
in paper, specifically on a fin or a sawbuck".
I also think that "Stars" on Blackfoots album sorta seems like a
poisoned-letter to the members of LS.

RE. -1,
Ask anyone who gigs on a regular basis what aggrevates them most often
and they'll almost always say "someone shouting FREEBIRD!!" One way
I've found of shutting these idiots up, is to raise your middle finger
on high and say "Hey stupid, here's a Free Bird for ya!!" Works almost
every time...
