| Some of their other hits were
Spooky....(a re-make of CLASSIC IV hits - 2 members of ARS were C IV)
Cordaville
I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
Greatest hits is a good album and Quinella also has a couple to toe
stompin' tunes on it..
Also remember Paul Goddard the bass player...He mustta
weighed 350 lbs.

Right! And an old trick that we used to do all the time - play "Imaginary
Lovers" at 45rpm, and it sounds *exactly* like Stevie Nicks.... very weird!

| Howzabout "Doraville", not "Cordaville"...you live in Southboro, MA or
something?
I always liked ARS becuase they were more into pop hooks than the other
Southern rockers. They had interesting pedigrees, various members did
time with Roy Orbison and the Classics IV ("Spooky", "Stormy", etc.).
After a few LPs they did start repeating themselves, though...most of
the stuff after "A Rock and Roll Alternative" sounded pretty much the
same.
Some version of the band is apparently still touring in the
southeastern US.

| Imaginary Lovers was a rather provocative song at the time, being about
an activity that the PMRC definitely would not approve of.
Re the Stevie Nicks connection, the reverse works also. Play one of
her 45's at 33, instant ARS!

Yeah, "Spooky" - that was the tune I liked. Am I imagining things, or
was there a long album version, and a shorter one they played on the
radio (what's on the Greatest Hits). Is Quinella a newer one? That's
the only one Noteworthy has besides Hits...

Nope. You may be thinking of Paul Carrack, who was the singer and
keyboardist for Ace ("How Long"). Later sang for Mike and the
Mechanics, Squeeze, Nick Lowe and has had a few solo hits. Ace was a
British band, by the way.
Re: Quniella
This is one of the last ARS releases. Most of their stuff was on
Polydor, wasn't this on another label (maybe Epic)?
Re: versions
The album versions of "Spooky" and "So Into You" are longer than the 45
versions.

Well, Noteworthy has just listed "Champagne Jam" and "Rock and Roll
Alternative" as New Releases. I think I'll try both of these, but...
Since neither of these has "Spooky" and I want that, I'm still trying to
find out if Greatest Hits CD has the long or short version.
How about, can anybody who has the old album that "Spooky" came off of
(which one anyway) tell me what the time is for that tune and I'll
compare to the Hits CD?

The version of "Spooky" on _Greatest Hits_ is 10 seconds shorter than
the original ARS version on the _Underdog_ LP. Probably just an early fade.
