The 'Oral Exciter' sounds like *quite* a different device - :-)

I agree. Spelling was never more important than right now. 'Oral' and 'Aural'
mean two entirely different things.

Too bad you had to put up with the abuse but I must admit an 'oral
exciter sounds like somthing fo those lonely nights!!!!!
Anyway i'm sure that you've tried commusic buit that would be
recommendation. There seems to be a lot more midi, suynth stuff in
there. I dont know about the particular gear you're talking about but I
know that exciters for guitarsd are kind of like special equalizers;
they boost certain parts of the spectrum, I think the highs and low and
pull out some of the middle. Sounds like you're really gearing up!!
So how are things??

416.4 | So select an Oral Exciter based on Sound? | SHARE::CICCARELLI | Michaeldavid | 225-4655 | Technical Consultant | Sat May 08 1993 07:44 | 15 |
| Hmmmmmm, guess it's best my wife doesn't work here any more, else she'd
see my note and I'd be back on that [comfy] couch... At least that
proves my point - I have to decide based upon blind faith - obviously I
haven't heard one or I'd at least have the name straight (although, Aphex's
marketing team may want to thing about my name...)
Anyway, I selected the Aural (oral) Exciter and it will see it's first
audience in less than a week - we'll see (hear) how it goes...
thanks!
P.S.: thanks for the support Fred, but after 12+ years at DEC with
considerable scars from "notesfile abuse"; these comments seem to be
simply good natured fun - gotta admit, my name was "exciting'!
take care - hit me via private medium and we'll catch up!

| Try the CAFEIN::HOME_STUDIO notesfile.
Some one there will know the answer.
I frequently post idiot questions there (not that your quesion is
stupid) without getting abuse.
Lately, thats changed though as some of the people have heard my music.
:-) :-) I wouldn't have it any other way.

416.6 | 2 different prosesses = 2 different sounds | OBSESS::BREEN | wires is my life | Mon May 17 1993 13:30 | 35 |
| The two units you mention are two different animals.
The BBE Sonic Maximizer takes the raw signal and "time aligns" it by
dividing the bandwidth into 3 sections. Both the low and mid sections
are delayed by different amounts, and the high is left alone. I don't
remember the delay times or the crossover frequencies. I use mine on
the stereo outs insert of my board, along with an eq.
The Aphex Aural Exciter takes the raw sound and produces high harmonics
and injects it into the original signal. The new model does the same
with the lows also. I use the Exciter on individual instruments, but
some say you can use it on a mix. I don't care for it in this method.
I do use both units on mixdowns. The Exciter can add a distinction to an
instrument or voice without adding more volume. I use it on guitars and
vocals so far. I plan some experimenting on drums. I use the Maximizer
to add clarity to the overall mix. I seems to clear up a lot of the
muck caused by multiple reverbs and can help bring out the lows and highs
you think should be there. I use both units regularly.
If you gotta settle for only one...I suggest the BBE Sonic Maximizer!
...and then the Aphex Aural Exciter!! 8-)
