396.1 | "Nantuckett Sheighride" by Mountain | SUBSYS::GODIN | | Wed Apr 07 1993 10:03 | 8 |
| There's "Nantuckett Sheighride" by Mountain. It's about a whaler & his
family. This is about as soft & slow as Leslie West ever got. It
doesn't really say much about Nantuckett Island though. In fact a
"Nantuckett Sheighride" is a euphemism for being dragged around in a
ship by a harpooned whale. The song does sound nice & it was always one
of my favorites. FYI, I have it on vinyl.

There used to be a group called 'Nantucket' who I think recorded for
Columbia in the late 70s, if that helps...

| I'd go into some old song books, especially if you can find one that is
a collection of sea chanties and see if you can find a sea chantie
about nantuckett. there's a poem by John masefield the first line of
which ( and possibly the title) is "i must go down to the seas again".
There is also a beautiful song composed to the text of the poem but i
dont know who wrote. It wasnt a pop or folk tune. It was more of a
"serious" piece but it falls into the category of a 4 minute tune which
would fit nicely in any setting. Also check a Judy Collins song
book....she does a lot of nice pieces and you might find a nantuckett
reference there.
but I dont know who composed it
