U2 is definetely Irish.

How'bout Sinead O'Connor ?
Also, I am ashamed to remember but there was this "zero talent, zero
skill" Johnny Logan who won the Eurovision song contest twice. Ireland
won Grandprix only twice in the history (up until I left Europe, I
haven't been following it in the past 4 years) and both times with
Johnny Logan. The first time, his song became a big hit "What's another
year ?".
Johnny Logan then went to Turkey and got engaged with a Turkish
ballerina/stripper/belly_dancer who couldn't speak English, but I
suppose there was little need for speaking ;-)
He became a hero both in Turkey and in Ireland those years.
If you do a "Search Irish" in this conference you might find more Irish
performers.

remember we watched the grandprix together when Johnny Logan won the
second time, you were not proud at all ;-)

| I wouldn't cross the street to see Sinead O'Connor unless it was to
run her over with my car but I guess some people do like her.
When I was in Ireland I saw a great Irish rock band in Limerick
called Bagatelle (SP?). I was so impressed with them that I immediately
bought two of their albums. I have yet to see any of their stuff
here in the states - maybe a store in Boston. If you do come
across any of their music, you should definitely get it. I saw them
about 7 years ago and don't know if they are still together or not.

| If Sinead O'Connor's from Ireland (& she is) then so in In Tua Nua.
Also I believe Horslips (What's in a name ?) who sounded excellent, but
disappeared around 1984 are Irish.
Jethro may be partly Irish, I'm not sure.
How aboutEcho & the Bunnymen ? They used to play the same clubs as U2.
I can't recall if Big Country was Irish or Austrailian.
There's also Shawn Colvin, but I don't know where she spends most of her
time these days.

I don't think so. Not unless she's completely and totally shed any and
all traces of an accent. Saw her interviewed briefly on TV. No accent.

Big country are from Scotland with one English member.
The lead singer from The Waterboys is Scottish but I think most of the
current band is Irish

The JSD Band, maybe, but they might be from Scotland, as well. It was
many pints ago.
JF Murphy and Free Flowing Salt featured an album cover years back that
had a shamrock with the individual band pictures cutout in the leaves.
But I don't know if they were from Ireland, per se.

i saw them at The Paradise around 1979, they were great, if I can get
those old braincells working....Enya is another great Irish band....
...she's got a wonderful voice...and, yes, the Waterboys....great
band...and as someone else said, The Pogues....i've seen them twice...
great band..anyone know how the lead singer is doing (I forget his
name!)...did anyone see The Pogues with Joe Strummer (Clash) as front
man a few years ago???

| I don't know what kind of music your wife likes, but there are still
CDs and records by Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers or by the
individuals of the group. Tom Clancy lives here in New Hampshire, so
we get to see "specials" each year on local PBS...he's still damn good!

| Echo & The Bunnymen are most definitely not Irish, Mike Scott
of the Waterboys wishes he was Irish, Enya is Irish, Fairground
Attraction are/were Scottish and as for Chris De Burgh, he's Irish
with Argentinian connections I believe. Hopefully Chrissy Boy will
get his Martian naturalisation papers soon and relocate a.s.a.p.

I was confusing Shawn Colvin with Nanci Griffith (again). It seems neither
one is Irish (Nanci is from Texas), but Nanci has done some very Irish
sounding stuff herself & with The Chieftans (& Roger Daltry). Sorry for

of his entitled Irish tour 73 and it is full of really hot smokin' live

Friday. (I think he was the lead singer of the Virgin Prunes?) At any

day, and I liked it a lot. I think I might buy the album.
My daughter saw them in Boston a couple of weeks ago, too, and she
really liked them. Now, after seeing the video, I wish I'd seen them,
