Yeah, I'll miss Toy a lot. "Can't You See" is still one of my
favorite road songs, and represents the first time I was able
to hear any kind of country music and appreciate it. I'm
grateful. Saw MTB at the Centrum in '82 or '83, had a great show.

| Yes.....I saw Toy at in Greenville SC in 1989....great show! His
southern rock style (and Duane's and Dicky's and Leslie's) is still one
of my favorites to copy and he was an influence on the way I play today.
He will be missed.......

I saw the MTB at the Boston Garden sometime around 1979 and they
were terrible (although, everyone sounds terrible in the Garden!!).
I was and still am a big Tucker fan, but I would never waste the $$$
to see them in concert again. The were a major disappointment...
Also, wasn't there another Caldwell brother in the band that passed
away quite some time ago ???

381.5 | a little back ground, please correct me if Im off a bit | SLOHAN::FIELDS | and we'd go Running On Faith | Mon Mar 08 1993 10:23 | 31 |
| yes the Garden was not the place to listen to any band in...back in
the 70's......MTB also played in smaller place back in the late 70's
early 80's,Lowell Memoral Aud. comes to mind as one of the best places
I had seen them (not that leaning on the stage had much to do with it)
Tommy, Toys younger Brother, died back in 78 or 79 in a car
accident in his home town of Spartinberg (sp?) S.C. at this time the
band was running high as a touring and recording band. This was not
the end but the begining of the fall for sure. Toy left a few years later,
claiming he was tired of the road and wanted to spend time with his
family.....Doug Grey wanted to keep the show on the road and formed a
new line up with some studio musicians....saw them once at the EM lowes
in Worcester and they were alright but Toy was the band (IMO), also in
that line up was Jerry Eubanks (sp?) who played Keys and sax/flute.....
George McCorkle (the other guitarest and a hot one too) stayed at home
too, and last I heard was teaching his trade.....
the drummer Paul Riddle could be anywhere but he was not in the re-formed
band....in the late 80's (88 I think) Toy came out of hiding and formed
his own band, I got the dream of a life time to see Toy play in very
small room in Northboro (something like the North Main Street Cafe' or
something like that) well I knew the owners and was set up with a front
row table...Toy stood about 12 inchs in front of me (this place was
really small :'))
sad thing (for me anyways) is Toy was to Play at Jack's in Uxbridge
last weekend to promo his new release.....I would have gone, and a
friend, who I went to see MTB with alot, had called me with the bad
news and said the weird thing was he planed to call me and see if I
wanted to go on the Sunday to see him.

| I saw the marshall tucker band with toy (and apparently his brother at
a huge woodstock style 3 day festival at the state fairgrounds in
sedalia missouri. That would have been in '73 i believe. Dynamite show.
REAL country rock. I dug it. I say the mtb again recently without toy
and the band was soimewhat lacking. I was sad to hear of toy's death,
he really gave contributed to the crossover of rock and country.
