337.1 | Two bands... | CARTUN::BDONOVAN | | Wed Dec 16 1992 08:06 | 7 |

Michael Des Barres sang lead in a band called "DETECTIVE," I believe.
I think he was alos involved with the much-hyped but dead-on-arrival
"Fotomaker" (circa 1978).

| In addition to Detective, he was also in Silverhead (anybody remember
the not-very-politically-correct "16 and Savaged" LP cover shot?) and
the touring version of Power Station (Robert Palmer sang on their LP).
Didn't know he was in Fotomaker...are you sure?

337.3 | more roles... | REFINE::BARKER | Nothing is true...Everything is permitted | Wed Dec 16 1992 08:24 | 5 |
| That's all the bands I've heard of, as far as roles go, he shows up
occasionally on TV shows as some sort of rock personality. In movies,
"To Sir with Love", "Ghoulies" (I think that was the one).

| I Seen him on the Hitch_Hiker once..
I remember a Silver_Head cover(or the Inside,where the Black_And_White
photo of him,made him look like a real Creepy_Kind.He had an Arm
Out_Reached and it looked like it was Dis_Located.

Des Barres in Fotomaker...wouldn't bet my life on it. However,
I have a very clear picture of their album...a burnt orange affair with
a baby's face. The baby had bright red lipstick...
What the hell, 1978 was a long time ago...I thought it was Des Barres.
I can look it up at home...or we can put an all-call in to Alan Starr.
Alan, you out there?

337.6 | Vague recollections | KOLFAX::WIEGLEB | Ring on Meat | Wed Dec 16 1992 19:01 | 8 |
| Wasn't he also in The Winkies and/or Random Hold as well? (Two very
short-lived bands.)
Speaking of Silverhead (and yes I do remember the infamous "16 and
Savaged" album cover), wasn't Jerry Harrison (keyboardist for Talking
Heads) also in that band?

Idon't believe he was in Fotomaker, either. Didn't the vocalist have an
Italian last name ? BTW, they also had a second album that stiffed
worse than the first...had a green tinted cover with a photo of a
Japanese woman dressed in a Kabuki outfit.

337.8 | Can't forget Chequered Past! | CGVAX2::PAGE | One World Is Enough For All Of Us | Mon Dec 28 1992 15:13 | 10 |

Michael Des Barres was also in the short-lived (very shot-lived)
80's "supergroup" Chequered Past, which featured Des Barres on vocals,
ex-Sex Pistols guitar legend Steve Jones, Tony Sales from Todd
Rundgren's "Runt" lineup, and the drummer and bassist from Blondie (I
forget their names). They did one LP.

337.9 | Making claims for Nigel | KOLFAX::WIEGLEB | Ring on Meat | Thu Dec 31 1992 15:45 | 12 |
| RE: Silverhead
Unable to confirm it, but I think the other member of Silverhead who
"went on to other things" was *Nigel* Harrison ("Blondie"), not
Jerry Harrison.
RE: Chequered Past
I think the Blondie members were Clem Burke, and (*surprise*) Nigel
Harrison.

337.10 | not Random Hold... | ORACLE::BENZ | I'm an idiot, and I vote | Thu Jan 07 1993 10:51 | 5 |
| RE: .6 Random Hold was Bill MacCormick (ex-801, Quartermass[?]), David
Rhodes (now with PG), David Ferguson, and Peter Phipps on their album.
I don't know of any connection to Des Barres.

| Thanks. It was Bill MacCormick I was actually think of - oops.
I saw these guys as warmup for Peter Gabriel around 1978-79.

I think it would have been 1980, after PG III - that's how I saw them
too. I picked up the album several years later - good stuff, but not
urgent.

337.13 | a wild pair | VAXWRK::STHILAIRE | you've been a great audience | Tue Mar 23 1993 15:58 | 7 |
| I just finished reading his ex-wife's (Pamela) most recent book, "Take
Another Piece of My Heart" and, according to her, Michael was very
definitely a busy boy. Actually, it was, what might be called, a fun
read. They were definitely not Mr. & Mrs. Mainstream. :-)
