	The current Musician Magazine has a short bit with Jeff, in which
he talks about his playing on Roger Waters' "Amused To Death".  He also
talks a little about a forthcoming release in which he duplicates the
Guitar work of his '50s idol Cliff Gallup, who played lead for Gene Vincent
and the Blue Caps in 1956. Jeff has hooked up with swing/blues/country rock
band the Big Town Playboys to do a note-for-note cover record featuring
Cliff Gallup's bebop-inflected rockabilly solos.  hmmm...

    New Beck album due in February...scheduled to be called
    "Crazy Legs" in tribute to Gallup, Vincent, and the
    Blue Caps.

    	MTV or VH1 has been playing a bluesy / shuffle tune with Jeff
    	and Clapton with Eric singing and playing 1st solo.  Is it me
    	or does that tune step up considerably when Jeff plays?

    Isn't that "Further On Up the Road" from "The Secret Policeman's
    Other Ball"? FWIW, I think Beck's stuff, while great, seems
    out of place in an old blues boogie like that. Too modern and
    flashy.

I agree with .4.  I thought Jeff Beck sounded like a youngster trying
to show off, while Clapton came off more like a musician trying to do
right by the song.

    	Actually, it was great to hear Jeff play over a I-IV-V again.
    	I'd be shocked to hear Jeff play anything "normal" and by the
    	same token, shocked to hear Eric play anything "different".

No, I'm not kidding.  Hey, I'm often impressed by great technique
and "difficult" playing, but I'm only impressed by it *as* technique.
It has nothing to do with whether I'm impressed by the music.

    I haven't seen the video you folks are speaking of, but Beck is Beck
    and when he plays, it's immediately recognizable as such.  I don't 
    think Beck approaches things from a "watch my technique" point of view,
    it's just the way he plays.  I've always loved Beck's playing and his
    lack of predictability, he'll seldom play what you're mentally
    expecting.  Sheesh, I don't even think there's a comparison between
    Clapton and Beck, never has been imo.  I'm certain Clapton has lots
    of admiration for Becks playing.

    	Well put, Larry.  The only reason for comparison was that they
    	were on stage taking turns soloing.  Eric is definitely more
    	traditional in his playing.  
    

    Among my strongest contenders for Best Concert ever was the Beck/Vaughan
    tour that hit the Centrum a few years ago.  A friend has a bootleg tape
    of the show, it's amazing to see what Jeff could do with just 3 folks.
    Of course, due to Stevie Ray's passing, it's also an historic memory.

    Too bad it was such a big venue.  But I will always remember this
    show with great fondness.  One weirdness that kind of shocked me
    at the time:  most of the (quite young) crowd was there for SRV
    and weren't really there for Beck.  They closed together with 
    "Going Down" which was fun.

    I sure hope Jeff tours soon in support of the new album!  Probably
    depends on if he can talk himself into not working on cars for a
    while, which I get the idea is as much fun to him as guitaring.

    That's easy...he's audacious, does stuff that's unexpected and can be
    incredibly musical.  While he's known for barn-burning rockers, my
    favorite recordings of JB are stuff like "Where Were You?" and "Two
    Rivers" where he plays with incredible emotion and lyricism, yet still
    sounding exactly like himself.

    I've probably mentioned this before, but JB does a wonderful cover of
    "Sleepwalk" (playing a steel? slide?) on the Dave Edmunds Porky's II
    soundtrack album.
    
    

    I heard a good take on Beck once, in a review of the Clapton box set of
    all places.  They referred to Jeff as a "sonic wiseguy".  They meant it
    sort of derogatory, but I look on it more as a compliment

    
     I know that Jeff Beck has that ear problem from playing
    too loud, he was supposed to special guest with Gun's N Roses
    in France, he jammed with them during sound check, but didn't
    play during the show.

    I recently pulled a copy of "Wired" off the shelf, scratched as it
    is, threw it on the turntable, and the music held up well after 
    all these years. He should colarborate with Narada Michael Walden
    again.

    Oops, you heard any of the records  Walden produced in the last fifteen
    years?  He's a big soul/funk producer now, even on his own records.  No
    more fusion for Narada!

    there was some pretty funky stuff on "Wired" and I like funk, so of
    course I think it is a great idea. Walden got Aretha some hits again,
    maybe these are both artists that need to work with certain
    producers....they seem to flail without some guidance.
    
    

    Some sort of soundtrack recording with El Becko out in the stores now. 
    The rockabilly tribute is supposedly on the way in a few months.

	I heard a rumor the Beck was working on a project with Ginger
	Baker and a British guitar player named Gary Moore. They will be
	called BMB.
	
	Anyone know anything about Moore? (Not sure how the name is
	spelled.) I've been told he's an excellent guitar player.

I thought Moore was Irish?  I'm not sure though.  He played guitar for
Thin Lizzy for quite a while, and has released a couple of excellent
bluesy solo albums since.

    The name of the group is BBM - Bruce, Baker & Moore. The old Cream, ex-
    cept for Eric Clapton, being replaced by Gary Moore. GM had a big hit
    with 'Still Got The Blues' some years ago - he has also played with
    Colloseum, Thin Lizzy, among others. GM is not exactly my cop of tea,
    but no doubt he's a talented player. I just think he's a bit on the
    vulgar side, EC just has more taste, IMO.
    I heard some of the CD - actually it's so good that i might buy it...

    Gary Moore comes from Belfast. At the moment he is gigging with Jack
    Bruce and Ginger Baker. They have an album out currently.

    BTW, I heard they split up after one of the shows in London, something
    to do with Baker pulling a knife on one of the other guys. Strange, I
    mean Ginger is such an easy going guy, it's not like him to fall out
    with fellow musicians is it.....
