While station surfing in my car tonight, I stumbled over The Four Seasons' amazing version of "I've Got You Under my Skin"; the one with the "never win, never win" refrain, the false ending, and that great drum riff triggering the real ending. It made me think about other song arrangements that I love, such as Bette Midler's version of Bobby Freeman's "Do You Want to Dance?" and anything created by Phil Spector, especially "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling". Anyway, I thought it might be a good subject for Notesfodder. -rjc-

OK, how about: Great covers... Janis Joplin's Summertime from "Porgy & Bess" The Beatles' "Words of Love" (Buddy Holly) Great White's "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" (Ian Hunter & Mick Ronson) Cream's "Spoonful" (an old blues favorite, I think) Dave Clark 5's "Do You Love Me" (The Contours) Great arrangements... The Beach Boys' "Sloop John B." The Beatles' "I'm Only Sleeping" The Coasters' "Poison Ivy" Greatest rhythm guitar solo... I Fought THe Law (Bobby Fuller 4) -Paul |
