278.0. "NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC" by POWDML::ROSADO () Mon Aug 10 1992 13:12
I just had to write and comment on the New York Philharmonic orchestra
which I had the pleasure of seeing this past weekend at Hecksher State
Park in Long Island. This was their 15th annual *free* concert with a
record crowd of over 50,000 people. This was the very first time I've
ever listened to a classical orchestra.. (I'm more into top-40 stuff,
some jazz...but never classical ;-) ) so I was skeptical that I would have a
good time. Needless to say, the 1 1/2 hour concert was awesome with a
great display of fireworks at the end of the show! I encourage anyone
that always listens to the same type of music...venture into Long
Island next year for this concert.... it will certainly "broaden" your
mind to other types of music.
The only drawback.... yes, a drawback was getting *out* of the park
after the show...pure gridlock --> we waited almost 2 hours before
getting out of the park (close to midnight).
If/When I get information on next years concert, I will post it here.
I found out about it just this past weekend so I didn't get a chance to
post it beforehand!
