Hey Bill,
You might be interested in the usenet list on the subject. I tried
getting on the list once thinking all I had to do was send a simple
mail message but that didn't do it. You might want to try getting
on as explained below...I enclosed the whole of it in case anyone
is interested in other list server stuff.
Anyone heard Supernazz from Japan? I'm curious, I tend to some times
enjoy the interpretations of these bands who clearly enjoy American
music and anyone that does Lyres/DMZ covers can't be all bad.
Also, Bill as I mentioned in my mail to you you'd probably also
be interested in Seaweed, Treepeople, Supersuckers, etc. keeping
it short for now...
I have yet to hear anything by Willard, Sleep Capsule, Earth, and
Seven Year Bitch but as always I'm interested.

Subj: Re: Grunge List?
Jim,
What you're up against is the dreaded, evil Automated List Server
(the crowd gasps). The main clue is the mailing address which contains
LISTSERV (a popular list server program). It IS looking for commands,
so it took the first line of your message and looked for a command there,
found Again, didn't understand it, and rejected the message.
It gave you a clue, however, by saying Try HELP. If you sent a message
to the same address with HELP as the only message, you would probably
receive a text file listing all the commands the list server knows.
My database of lists has the following entry for the Grunge list:
Grunge Rock (GRUNGE-L)
- [email protected]
Mngr: [email protected] : Jon Hilgreen
Entitle your subscription request message as "sub grunge-l [full name]".
Based on this I would recommend sending a message that looks like this:
-----cut here-----
To: [email protected]
sub grunge-l uunet!usops.enet.dec.com!zappia
-----cut here-----
That should get you on the list.
If you're interested I have a database of lists that has the Grunge
list as well as dozens of other lists for all kinds of music and bands.
Let me know if you want it.
---------
if you're still here and are intersted in the above list I'll either get it
from the above author (I've delayed writting back) or I'll give you node
address.

RE: .5 Bill? I know (think) you're still out there...
Among other new releases you'll probably want to check out the
compilation "Afternoon Delight", somewhat of a Grunge Years II.
The band Earth has at least one release out (CD only). I haven't
heard it but it's probably two endless to describe, two songs, 35
minutes. The band members are Joe from the Melvins, someone from
Dickless, and Mr. Cobain. {I don't know if this is the same as the
Melvana boot or not.}
Seven Year Bitch aren't on Sup Pop, they play some fine post-punk
punk. One piece in particular "Dead Men Don't Rape" is pretty good.
Other fine players in the series are the kids from D.C. and Olympia
areas, Bratmobile, Bikini Kill, ... 'nough of that...mail directly
to Bill probably would have made more sense but why start now. Lastly
Willard who I have yet to hear might have something out on the very
fine K records.
