| re: Brent Spiner.
As far as I can tell, he was doing musical theater before Star
Trek. I saw him in "Sunday in the Park with George", starring Mandy
Patinkin and Bernadette Peters. Actually, all three have gone back and
forth between movies and TV and music. Patinkin was in "The Princess
Bride", "Dick Tracy" and (help me with the title) "House on Carroll
Street" (w/Kelly McGillis), and has IMHO and INCREDIBLE voice. Spiner
by the way, has a very good voice (at least judging from the
performance).

| There's been a lot of these over the years...
One of the guys from "Dukes of Hazzard" is now a big C&W star (the
blond one).
Clint Eastwood duetting with Merle Haggard on "Barroom Buddies".
Keith Carradine who had a hit with "I'm Easy" (originally done as part
of the movie "Nashville").
For that matter, Ronnee Blakely (who did the Loretta Lynn character in
the same movie) did a few albums in the 70s and toured with Bob
Dylan!!??
Bill Cosby recorded some stuff in the 60s and did another one about two
years ago.
The Blues Brothers...
Burt Ward (Robin on the "Batman" TV show) recorded a song called "Go,
Boy Wonder" produced by Frank Zappa !!!!????
Dudley Moore has recorded some albums of jazz piano; so has Steve Allen.
Bobby Sherman was a regular on "Shindig", then was in that show "Here
Comes the Brides" before becoming a bubble-gum superstar.
Steve Martin has recorded some competent bluegrass banjo using the Dirt
Band for backup (they shared a manager). Check out the flip side of
"King Tut".
Gary Busey was a drummer with Leon Russell and a kiddie's talk show
host before his acting took off in "The Buddy Holly Story". He played
all the guitar parts in the movie himself.
How about Robert Mitchum singing "Thunder Road"...awesome...

Dudley Moore ( mentioned earlier ) is a VERY good classical pianist
Lurch from the Aadams Family is the lead singer of Midnight Oil - OK,

William Shatner - A classic. A classic what, I have no idea.

is apparently "too risque" for release. She played Patsy Cline
in the movie, "Coal Miner's Daughter" and she sings on the soundtrack
album.
...Which is an excellent album, if you like country. Sissy Spacek
played Loretta Lynn in the movie and does a very credible job singing.

Michelle Phiffer (sp) did some fantastic work on The Fab. Baker Boys.
Would Vanessa Williams count in this catagory? She wasn't an actress,

re Patrick Swayze
He's also had 1 hit song. I guess he is officially a actor, but his
background is as a musician and dancer.
re Vinesa Williams
I would call her more of a singer, then actor. She's done a few bit
parts, but has had a couple hit songs.
The woman who plays the girlfriend of Coach in the TV show "Coach" did
a song when she played on the "Donna Reed Show". It was her only song
she ever recorded, and it was a hit. In fact I think it went to #1.
Clint Eastwood has even done a musical, where he had a solo. It's
called "Paint Your Wagon". Lee Marvin co-stars.
Jack Lemon has done a couple of Jazz Piano albums. He's actually pretty
good.
There are people who are considered top-rank actors and singers. Frank
Senatra. Obviously known as a singer, and has won a oscar in "From Hear
to Eternity". Bing Crosby is another singer, but has stared in over 100
movies, including box office hits "Going My Way", and "The Bells of
Saint Mary" ,and we can't forget "Holiday Inn" and "White Christmas".
And this brings us to people like Bette Midler, and Barbara Striesand.
Both excellent singers with numerous albums, and both excellent actors.
And lets not forget Cher.

Also, Dennis Quaid sings and has a band. He does a song on the THE BIG EASY

| Among the famous actors and actresses who sing or sang, don't forget the french
ones : you've surely heard of Brigitte Bardot, Isabelle Adjani (she even was
quite close to Warren Beatty at at time...) or Catherine Deneuve. Both of them
recorded albums written by Serge Gainsbourg (that many MUSIC noters know for his
famous slow "Je t'aime moi non plus" :^)).
Also Yves Montand in France that passed away last year was famous for his films
as well as for his songs (you've surely seen him in "Wages of fear").
But let's stop being chauvinistic and let's see if they aren't some US ou UK
actors/actresses that we have forgotten.
Dirk Bogarde recorded an LP named "Lyrics for lover".
Diana Dors also recorded an album named "Swingin' dors"
An italian one now : Sophia Loren who sang "Woman of the river"
Richard Chamberlain (he is the rage here in France) recorded an album with a
very original title : "Richard Chamberlain sings".
A man from U.N.C.L.E. now David Mc Callum : "Music a part of me" if what I've
been told is true he would have better kept this part hidden :^)
Cassius Clay recorded at least a single where he covered "Stand by me". On the
B-side there was a song named "I'm the greatest"...
Bette Davis also recorded a single " "Whatever happened to Baby Jane".
Norman Bates, oops sorry Anthony Perkins, recorded an album as Tony Perkins :
"From my heart"
And James Dean also : "Jungle rythm/Dean's lament"
Marlene Dietrich that just passed away for quite famous also as a singer. I've
heard that she once covered "Blowin' in the wind" and Jacques Brel's "Ne me
quite pas" in german.
Ava Gardner : "Lovin dat man".
Did we talk already about Bonanza " ?
Lorne Green : Welcome to Ponderosa
Michael Landon : Gimme a little kiss
Some blondes now : Jayne Mansfield "Little things mean a lot" or Marylin Monroe
(I can't believe we have forgotten her in this topic up to now...)
A persuader : Roger Moore who sang "Where does love go ?"
John Wayne recorded an album "America, why I love her"
And last but not least Mae West covered Day Tripper.
That's all folks

How about Lisa Hartman. I just love her voice although she never made
it really big.
Meryl Streep was great in Postcards from the Edge. They said she had
never sang in public before. We could add Shirley McClaine to our list
too. She did a lot of singing and dancing in her earlier movies.
Should we consider Omar Shariff with Barbra Striesand (I saw Funny Girl
on Sunday!!!) NAH!!! He was awful, IMHO, of course.

"Dukes of Hazard" both John Schneider and Tom Wopat are C&W singers,
however John has had much more success. I don't actually know any of
Tom's music, although I here it occassionally and it sounds pretty
good. John has had such tunes as "They Auctioned of My Daddy's Farm
Today", and a big hit for him (at the sound of the tone)"Your On Your
Own.... Goodbye".
And lets not forget Jerry Reed who's played in movie's with Burt
Reynolds like Smokey & The Bandit. Jerry sang the tune "I Got The
Shake", and I saw Burt in a movie once with Dolly Parton "Best Little
Whore House in Texas" in which he sang a tune I think called "Torn
Between Two Lovers" (different version).
And of course Dolly Parton herself who now has the movie out
"Straight Talk" and has always been a C&W entertainer.

John Schneider got a leg up on his music career through film/TV but,
Jerry Reed was in the music biz long before his film debut!
He did the tune "East bound and down", which was played on a few
occasions in Smokey and The Bandit. Prior to that he was noted for
"Alligator Bait", "When you're hot you're hot" and several others.

I think Jerry Mather did that great hit, "When the Braces on
Our Teeth Get Locked." (Really! You can look it up!)
David McCallum ("Man from Uncle") had at least one top 10 hit.
Sophia Loren did her own singing in the movie version of _Man of
LaMancha_. Shows you can do anything in the studio.
And the absolute worst thing I've ever heard on TV was the original
version of _Bonanza_, where Adam, Hoss, L'il Joe, and Pa Cartright
sung the title song. None of them could sing a note. (Hop Sing was,
mercifully, silent.) Fortunately, this never made it onto the air
except on the Bloopers shows.

| Only watched the show once or twice, but on the old 70s show "Mary
Hartman, Mary Hartman" was a take-off on a country singer. The
actress, Loretta Haggers, played a struggling singer named Mary
Kay Place (hmmmmmm) who resorted to almost *anything* to get her
music heard.
In actually, Loretta was a very good singer and songwriter. Her debut
(and, alas, probably only) album featured a number of self-penned tunes
like "Baby Boy" and "Vitamin L". I recall that those two tunes got
some airplay on the country stations; in fact, the songs also featured
some alumni from Emmylou Harris' Hot Band (steeler Hank DeVito, drummer
John Ware and Emmylou herself on background vocals!)

Clint also sings in songs on the soundtracks to "Bronco Billy" and
"Every Which Way But Loose". He also sang in the Movie "Honky Tonk
