219.1 | Pre_release review of the new one ... | RAVEN1::JERRYWHITE | Hey you're pretty good - NOT ! | Fri May 08 1992 01:48 | 17 |
| I just finished listeing to/taping the debut of "The Southern Harmony
And Musical Companion" by the Black Crowes. This is their 2nd release
(after "Shake Your Money Maker"), featuring the current hit "Remedy".
This was a in_studio interview with Chris Robinson. They aired 5 songs
from the CD, and 5 more "live in the studio" cuts.
I loved it ! Good grooves from start to finish, in the same vein as
the 1st release. This CD contains a lot of female backup vocals, which
suit Chris Robinson to a tee. If you liked the 1st release, you'll
love this. If you haven't heard the first release, go buy it - shame
on you ...
Tour (High As The Moon) starts in late July, probably in Minneapolis MN.
They won't be doing large arenas, but smaller theaters (5K or less).

And THAT folks is saying something! (Hi Mark)....
I had the pleasure of seeing the Crowes open the ZZ Top concert last year
in Hartford. We had Skybox tickets (it's a LONG story), and the Crowes
were great.
However, they cut short their set. Apparently a fellow got up out of
his seat in the 3rd row stepped into the aisle to take a photo. (Cameras
were not banned from this concert) and a security guy pushed him.
(Personally, I would have tried the tack of "please return to your seat"
first).
Anyway, about six goons jump this guy and start hauling them out.
The Crowes stopped playing, said "You don't have to kick the sh*t out of
him to get him to leave", muttered something about the Gestapo, and
walked off stage.
Still, the set they did was great! Can't wait for the CD to be available.

| Yep, the Crowes are way cool! Chris reminds me of the
quintessential young rock star-real opinionated, and will live to be
embarassed by old interview responses.
"Shake Your Money Maker" spends a lot of time in my CD player. It's
fresh, raw and spirited. I hope the new one's at least as good.
I hope it's out here in Colorado, too. I hate being in the great
unwashed prarie when new stuff comes out; we're never the first to get
at it!

and that they will be playing the smaller venues. Has anyone heard

I don't want to miss their next tour! Are the Crowes from around here?
Can someone give me some background on them?

Where's around here? I think they're from the west coast (states).
That narrows it now, huh! I first saw 'em open for Plant and at
the time I enjoyed them, and then some where in between I couldn't
stand them, now I like their care free attitude to their music. Haven't
heard enough off the new one to really comment.

| Yup, southern boys ...
From the interview I heard, they'll be doing smaller halls. Should be
a great show. That interview also aired some "live" studio cuts at
some songs off both albums. Chris Robinson can really belt out a tune
in that environment, much more expressive than what's on the albums, if
you can imagine that ... 86)

Lale,
The explanation is easy when you consider the other survey recently
done. I'll post part of it here:
Thing least likely for a computer industry engineer to admit:

I heard this on WBCN within the last six weeks. There was no
specification of exactly what Chris wants to do, and I've not heard any
more on it. Admittedly, my contact with the news of modern music is
lessening, so for all I know the guy was talking out of the side of his
head.
