186.1 | No, they won't play it .... | RAVEN1::JERRYWHITE | Hey you're pretty good - NOT ! | Thu Mar 26 1992 08:20 | 13 |
| I heard the new album "Black Radio Stations Won't Play This Album", or
something like that last night. Mercy mercy mercy ......
Very heavy. Kings X meets Testament. I tapped it on a late night show
and haven't had a chance to listen to all of it, but so far, every
song is pounding. I think there were a couple mellow songs thrown in
for good measure. The lead singers appear to be the same folks from
the earlier MF versions.
Anyone else heard this ? Comments ? Spare change ?

really the name of the album? Gotta check this out...

| Original singers for sure - their style is unmistakable. The first cut
on the CD is called "Just Like A Negro". It's such a rockin' tooon
that I haven't listened to the words yet. 8^)

Yow, been years since I've listened to them. I used to be a big fan sometime
back around the late 70's but haven't kept up with them since early 80's.
Do they still record? Tour?

were here in Greenville SC not too long ago, but I didn't go see 'em.
I'm tellin' ya, this new album is wicked.

FWIW - the *new* Lynyrd Skynyrd stinks, and are nothing more than a
group of opportunists trying to compete in the Kentucky derby on a dead
horse.

>FWIW - the *new* Lynyrd Skynyrd stinks, and are nothing more than a

I respectfully disagree. Artimus Pyle, Gary Rossington, Leon Wilkonson, Ed
King, and Billy Powell are all from the original Lynyrd Skynyrd. Add to that
lineup Johnny Van Zant, brother of original lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, and
one other guitar player who's name escapes me at the moment, and you have a
pretty darn good band. They do miss the singing and even more so the
songwriting of Ronnie Van Zant, and in that sense they are most definately not
the same Skynyrd as 15 years ago. I thought the material on their new album
was marginal at best. Still worth the price of admission though, at least for
me.

| I agree with .14.
I think waht hurts them most is, as stated in .14, the songwriting of
Ronnie VanZant not being there. Other than that, I think they still
sound pretty good, ANd, they sound WONDERFUL in concert.

(maybe this weekend) out on Whitehorse Rd. Minus the rednecks, I think
I rather seen'em in a club setting anyway.

| No offense, but Jimmy Buffet gets on my nerves. Besides, I've got an
ex that was a BIG (we're talking beefalo) JB fan, which is probably why
I don't like his stuff. "Cheeseburger In Paradise" indeed ...
RE: Reggae ...
... well in these troubled GSO times, that music is a welcome change.
It's hard to be in a bad mood when listening to a lot of that stuff.
