171.0. "Mylene Farmer" by SHALOT::WELTON (I attract women in distress) Mon Mar 16 1992 16:44

A couple of weekends a go, I heard an album by the french singer
Mylene Farmer. the record, titled _L'autre_, was really kinda
neat - kinda like crossing Kate Bush with Madonna.

Does anyone know anything about her? Does she have any U.S.
         release? etc.

         later,

    RE: Ann

Seriously! It's loaded with those Kate-like haunting, *BIG*, yet wispy,
keyboard sounds, but instead of *BIG* drums you get a kinda house-like
beat (not quite verging on sampled James Brown). I mean, given the
fact that I've never heard any french-language music that sounded close
to "anglo-pop", this stuff was a vast departure from the other dribble
I've heard in France or Quebec. It was tolerable!

Mylene Farmer is pretty big in France.

When I was in Paris for 6 months in late '88 and early '89, her albums
were everywhere, and her videos were constantly on the French music
video shows.

I liked her stuff. She had some good videos too, and she's not uneasy
too look at either....

I've never seen one of her albums here in the States though. Then again,
I might not have looked in the right places...
