| | Dave continued in the vein of that album you own, "Alone Together"
(probably his best ever), well into the seventies, but then sort of
faded out after having what was his biggest hit, "We Just Disagree".
IMHO the whole period was a long downhill slide, with each album a
little less impressive than the last, although both "Headkeeper" and
"It's Like You Never Left" are still pretty good.

He has continued to tour, although as far as I know has not issued a
news recording for over ten years. Not sure if he still tours with a
    band or not.

A slide, Brian? Hmmm... I have the album with "We just
Disagree" (a song I love to crank and harmonize with when
it comes on the radio). That album contains a very nice
version "Bring it on Home", a nice love song "Every Woman",
a hot version of "All Along the Watchtower" and many others.

    	Good music!!!

| 161.3 | Mason with EC? | GOOROO::CLARK | I'm too sexy for my job | Tue Mar 10 1992 10:33 | 8 |
| | Once in my college days I heard a tape of Derek and the Dominoes with
Dve Mason on secon guitar. It was amazing at the time (could have been
the state I was in :-) ). It was (I think) a King Biscuit tape which
    was broadcast on BCN.

Does anyone have a copy of that? I would LOVE to hear it again.

Yep, Dave actually was a Domino for about a week of gigs at the outset.
This was no doubt due to the Delaney & Bonnie connection (they backed
up both Dave and EC on their first solo LPs, and both played on the "On
Tour" LP as well). Dave also managed to be around when the Dominoes
backed up G.H. on "All Things Must Pass".

| | The last time that I saw/heard of Dave Mason was at the St. Paul winter
carnival (MN) in '87. He was playing strictly acoustic, and had a
second guitarist with him. He sounded as good as ever, but had grayed
quite a bit, and appeared to have eaten his share of deep dish pizza
and beer-cheese soup... The show was free, as it was part of the
    Carnival.

    Cheers,

| 161.6 | Dave at Nightstage last year | LEDS::MACKINNON |  | Wed Mar 25 1992 12:42 | 31 |
| | Last year in either Feb or March I saw Dave Mason play with an electric
band at Nightstage and it was one of the best sounding and most
professional shows I've been to since I can remember. The sound was
perfect and he delivered every single hit he ever made, plus old
Traffic tunes (Dear Mr. Fantasy etc) as well as his some of his new
material. His band had a great sense for his sound and the tunes
sounded great and very close to the recorded versions (if that's what
you're into). The band included a hot young guitar player, drums, 2
keyboards and bass (as I recall). What was nice was that Dave played
a lot of acoustic guitar and the mix between that and the younger guys
electric playing was great. Old Dave really showed he could still
crank out a few solo's himself with his Strat a few times, but his
beautiful melodies were still his strong point. Afterwards I really
had the feeling of seeing an old Rock'n'roll legend, albeit onthe
downswing for sure. His voice was right on, his rapport with the crowd
great, and sound was perfect. He played the entire song set off of
"The Very Best of Dave Mason", as well as many others.

About 2 months later I saw that he was playing out in Northampton at
the Ironhorse Cafe. I assumed it was with the electric band again
and dragged 4 friends out with me to see him again. Unfortunately
the show was a flop - he was playing only acoustic with one other
guy playing acoustic who was a total d*ck, played way too loud
(distorted acoustic) and basically ruined the vibe of the night as
Dave had to chew him (and the sound man) out a few times because
of overindulgence in volume. Kind of disappointing. Anyways,
if his electric band comes around again I can definitely recommend
    the show.

Nightstage, in my opinion, has the best sound of all the clubs in the
    Boston area.

I own the LP. I don't know if it is still available in the shops.
It is a live album recorded at Fairfield Hall, Croyden and the Oz
Benefit Concert in London, July 1971.

    The songs:
    Medicated Goo
    Sad and deep as you
    40,000 Headmen
Shouldn't have took more than you gave
    Dear Mr. Fantasy
    Gimme some lovin'

The lineup also includes Jim Gordon.

| | Re: .13

"Canteen" is sloppily played and recorded. The jams on side two go on
a bit too long, but the Mason tunes are nice and "40,000 Headmen" is
fantastic. For a Mason fan, probably of little interest, for Traffic
    fans it's mandatory 8^) 8^)
