148.1 | new album coming | REFINE::BARKER | Fidel blew mustard gas from his cigar... | Tue Feb 25 1992 08:03 | 8 |
| They're in the process of field testing a new bassist. They were
recently in South America doing some live shows. I saw a brief
interview with Corey Glover on eMpTyV. He said they still have to
decide whether or not the guy they're using now (sorry can't remember
the name) will continue on with them. Also, there's supposed to be an
album coming out relatively soon.

replaced Muzz Skillings.

| That's the name! Thanks Brian. I got the impression that they were
pleased with his playing, but hadn't definitely decided. Maybe they still
'miss' Muzz too much to choose another. Or maybe that's a little
sentimental.

| Last I heard is that Muzz in now a NYC fireman. He passed the test
right before the band hit the big time. As far as musically, I think
he back to playing jazz.

148.5 | Wants to Fight Fires | ELWOOD::HERTZBERG | History: Love it or Leave it! | Wed Mar 04 1992 18:17 | 11 |
| >> Last I heard is that Muzz in now a NYC fireman...
That's the first thing I thought when I heard he left the band. He did
pass the test in the late 80s, and found it a tough decision whether to
stay with the band or take the job fighting fires.
I would think, though, that he'd want to ride the wave with Living
Colour a little longer. Judging from the first two albums (and
ignoring "Biscuits"), the act isn't exactly going downhill.

I thought Vivid was gonna be hard to follow but they did kinda well,
I'd say.

yesterday in a music industry rag that Living Colour is currently in
the studio and the release will be "this winter."

I don't know what the capacity for Ralphs is suppose to be, but
I'm sure they exceeded it by 100%. The place was packed so much that it
was next to impossible to get to the bar. My ears are still pounding...

148.15 | Another 5 weeks | NACAD::HERTZBERG | History: Love it or Leave it! | Sun Jan 24 1993 16:05 | 2 |
| The new album, titled "Stain," will be released March 2. Geez, it's
been a long wait.

148.16 | Stain | NACAD::HERTZBERG | History: Love it or Leave it! | Thu Mar 04 1993 12:28 | 24 |
| I picked up "Stain" on tuesday at my local record store. I've now
listened to it maybe 5 times or so, and can offer the following
opinions:
- The pre-release review I read said the album was very "heavy."
I agree. I don't think Vernon's guitar is without considerable
crunch on any song at all. But his tone is truly incredible,
for you guitar tone addicts.
- Vernon's soloing is maybe a little more "out" than in the past,
which was kinda "out" to begin with. If you're looking for I IV V
progressions and blues solos, look elsewhere. This album is about
5/8 jazz to my ears. Several very surprising tempo changes,
executed with almost scary ease.
- Doug Wimbish's bass playing is a change from Muzz's, but the band
has definitely survived mostly intact. I'm kinda partial to Muzz,
still, but Doug has his moments on this record.
- The first five or six songs on the album have grown on me quickly,
while the last half is a bit less easy to come to grips with.
Several memorable tunes, notably "Leave It Alone" and "Bi."

148.17 | Touring in the area | NACAD::HERTZBERG | History: Love it or Leave it! | Fri Nov 05 1993 12:13 | 8 |
| It seems Living Colour will be at the Avalon in Boston this coming
Tuesday night, 11/9. General admission tickets at $18.50 available
through Ticketmaster.
Does anybody know if Living Colour has any other shows in the area
coming up soon?

Well I'm sure glad I caught that hot Avalon show (-.1)...
the Boston Glob reports today that Living Colour is kaput.
They got together for a recording session late last year
and nothing was coming.
I'll be sorry to see these guys go. What will Vern Reid move
on to?

Corey Glover is VJ'ing on VH1.

148.23 | wonder why | AWATS::WESTERVELT | | Fri Jan 20 1995 12:07 | 14 |

I liked their last disc a lot too. I wonder how its sales were,
and whether they contributed to the band's demise. I don't really
understand it, I thought they had tremendous (realized) potential,
and were/are excellent musicians. Maybe someone will write an
article about the inside story... but I don't recall that the
most recent album got a lot of airplay, and there was no hit on
the scale of "Cult of Personality" or "Open Letter to a Landlord".
So, come to think of it, maybe they should have gotten themselves
on Beavis & Butthead. That mighta done it, instead Corey's playing
VJ! (I was interested to discover he worked as an actor prior to
singing in the band... but what a great voice.) It was a socially
conscious band too, and though that sort of thing seems somewhat
out of favor these days it did add to the enjoyment for me.
