| Musically it was nothing to write home about, but the most *fun* I ever had
at a concert was the Ramones at Salisbury Beach about six years ago. What a
bunch of pinheads.
I was a little disappointed when I saw them at Citi in Boston last year; they
played very punk and fast, with the lyrics semi-shouted in a monotone ... I
know they were the premier punk band and all that, but I guess I'll always
think of them as good old-fashioned primitive rock and roll.
Marky Ramone just turned 40! I hope he follows Joey's lead, gives up the
pizza and starts eating that wheat germ.

me to "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" (what album was that originally released on,
anyway?) - great tune.

Someone mentioned that they were going to be in Providence on July 22
but I haven't heard about this. There were some shows listed in last
week's Village Voice but I cannot remember the dates.
The book is not bad if you can get by all the exclamation points. The
author is definitely a fan and does get carried away. It is a good
read for the money.

I have an ad sitting here in front of me that says they play Lupo's
Heartbreak Hotel in Providence on July 22.

| What a show! They're sounding better than ever. After their 1st
break, Marky, Johnny and CJay came out as a 3 piece and did "Strength
to Endure" with CJay singing. Only problem is that they can never play
long enough for me. So many great songs, so little time. FYI, they
played about a 75 minute set (i.e. 30-35 songs). Johnny even threw me
a RAMONES pick at the end. Thanks for posting the note that they were
playing in Providence, else I would have surely missed the show.

| After 3 listens through (I just bought it last night), my 1st
impressions of "Acid Eaters":
All 60's covers (obvious), thus the title.
Not a "1-2-3-4" on the whole disc.
"Substitute", with Townshend singing back-ups, will wind up as the
radio hit. "When I was Young" is also a strong contender.
1st cut, "Journey to the Center of the Mind" is sung by C.J.
Other tunes include:
"Out of Time" - Stones
"The Shape of Things to Come" - I liked the version of this done by
Joey with "The Seclusions" better.
"Somebody to Love" - they stole my idea on this one...and did it just
as I had planned to.
"My Back Pages" - Another one sung by C.J.
"Can't Seem to Make You Mine" - remake of old Sky Saxon and "The Seeds"
tune.
"Have You Ever Seen The Rain" - drums a bit drowned out.
"Surf City" - Finally makes it to disc. I have a tape of them doing
this live back in '79.
Plus: "I Can't Control Myself", "7 And 7 Is".
Some of these tunes are recorded so hot, it overloads my car system.
A couple of questions:
They credit "Sebastian Bach" in the liners along with Townshend, but
don't mention which tune(s) he played on. First of all, who is he?
Any idea which songs he might have done?
There was an insert in the disc about this thing called "The Box"...
music television YOU control. It's the first I've heard of this.
Can anyone explain more about what this is and if it's available in
Mass?

| BTW, for all you Ramones fans looking for a new band to check out, I
STRONGLY suggest getting the self-title debut by "The Muffs" on Warner
Bros. 16 tunes and not a bad one in the bunch. Kind of sounds like a
cross between the Ramones/Rezillos/Joan Jett. 2 of the band memebers
used to be in "The Pandoras". Some of you Californians may have seen
them around in the mid-80's.

| IMO, it's because their songs have melodic chord progressions, played
predominantly using power chord rhythm guitar, with song titles like
"Big Mouth" and "Stupid Jerk", poignant lyrics, at least 1/2 the songs
under 3 minutes and none over 4 minutes. Other than that, they aren't
like the Ramones at all :*)

| Well, thanks for all the replies to my last question :@).
Ramones in Providence at the Strand, 3/30/94. FYI, 3/30/74 was their
1st show ever...20 years to the day. Who would have believed they'd
still be with us after this long. Not bad for a band that was believed
to be no more than a fad, destined to fade out of interest after their
1st/2nd LPs.

| Great show. Got back-stage to hang with the boys before the show on
their 20th anniversary. They had forgotten about the date. They have
shirts and stuff for the whole 20th anniversary tour made up, but they
had forgotten it was 20 years to the day that night. So when they went
out, Joey announced it to the crowd. My contribution to Ramones
history. So after I tell them this, Marky says "so what are we doing
playing the Strand?", implying their agent should have gotten them a
better gig for that night. Maybe I should be their agent :@)
