I recently saw Del Shannon's posthoumous CD (the one produced by Jeff Lynne) in the store. Would someone who purchased it kindly post a review? I'm particularly curious to know whether he did a good job "covering" a song that he wrote for Peter and Gordon, "I Go to Pieces"

I've only listened to it once so far... My general impression is, if you like the Traveling Wilbury's you will probably like this. You could almost imagine this being part of the (missing) Volume 2, with Jeff Lynne producing, and contributions from Tom Petty as well. "Go to Pieces" starts off with an electric 12-string, is not overly produced, I don't recall any harmonies (as in Peter and Gordon). I liked it, as well as a cover of "What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am)" (another 60's song). I didn't like the last song "Let's Dance". Overall impression very favorable......makes you wonder why he gave up..... |
