| | She's actually got three tapes out and is now completing a CD.

The tape that you don't seem to have is her first tape and
unfortunately I can' seem to remember the name of it. I'm also
pretty sure that I don't have my copy of it either, and last time
I talked to her, she no longer had any in stock but was thinking
    of ordering a new batch.

I think she's a very talented songwriter and singer. She might
describe herself as folk, but I regard her music and lyrics as being
FAR more ambitious and adventurist than typical modern folk.

| | Lourdes' first tape is called "The Water's Edge". Some good songs there, but
not as consistent (or well-recorded) as the other two, IMHO.

| | Right - I remember now.

That first tape was recorded by bouncing between two relatively low
quality cassette decks! Knowing that, I'm amazed that it came out
sounding as good as it did. Only real problem is a TON of noise,
but the other problems you'd expect, like improper balance between
the instruments, don't seem to occur.

Can't wait to hear her new CD.

Funny thing about your comment Bill, I remember when she was rehersing
with Dave Blickstein, Willy Wiegler and Steve K. for one of the Decjam
shows. We were all hacking around (before Lourdes got there) with a
progressive version of "Moondance" (Van Morrison). In walks Lourdes
and without saying one word (like Hi, or Hello) walks over to watch my
left hand chording the tune. I remember thinking Hmmmmmmm... and who's
this? So I stopped playing to introduced myself. I remember thinking
that she has that "artist" way about her. I then put the guitar away
and moved aside so that the real rehersal could start, (I was just a
    spectator).
Some "artist" types just have the potential to rub some the wrong way.

    		Whew knew?

| 114.10 | Well... I enjoyed playing with her | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | Soaring on the wings of dawn | Tue Feb 11 1992 17:15 | 17 |
| | Later that day while the rest of us were eating the fine repast I had
so painstakingly prepared (as a sorta "get to know each other" meal)
Lourdes spent the time on the sofa glued to the TV set watching MTV!

But in Lourdes's defense, I think that my experience was that once she
loosened up a bit (i.e. felt more comfortable with you), she was
actually quite fun to work with. I'd do it again in a flash.

She's openly states her opinions, and she can be a little rigid in
accepting other people's ideas, but I really have no problem with that.

I got my ideas across - I know that cause they showed up in the
recordings she made with a different keyboard player in the studio
(first and only time I've ever had MY parts copped by another player).

| 114.12 | Lourdes at Cambridge River Festival | RICKS::CALCAGNI | Ripablikans fore Kwael | Mon Sep 14 1992 12:05 | 22 |
| | I caught Lourdes at the Cambridge River Festival this weekend.
Actually, I didn't even know it was her for most of the set, but
her band started playing on one of the stages and it just sort of
captivated me. I agree that the term "folk" doesn't accurately
describe what she does; the music is ambitious and seems to synthesize
a number of styles quite successfully into something unique. Besides
the music itself, it's worth mentioning that Lourdes has a terrific
voice; rich, full, very expressive. At times she reminded me of
Annie Haslam from the band Renaissance, but there's someone else she
sounds even more like that I just can't place. The band featured
another female vocalist, and they did some gorgeous harmonies
together. I grabbed copies of the two most recent tapes (CD still
isn't out I guess). Great stuff, highly recommended.

Btw, former DEC employee, seminal Music Noter, and bassist
extraordinaire Steve Klosterman is still in the band; he sounds great
and looks about 10 years younger since he left the company :-)

ps oh yeah, I spoke with Lourdes after the set. She was very warm
and friendly, by all indications a gifted and remarkable person.

| | The other singer was probably "Adrienne Z".

She's a great singer in her own right, although I find her lyrically
and musically less intriguing than Lourdes.

Did she have a keyboard player? Her usual keyboard player is a guy
name Geoff Gee who is a fantastic player and works for Kurzweil doing
    sounds/programs.

Geoff has very distinctive semi-long absolutely straight, absolutely
white blond hair (no, he doesn't look like Rick Wakeman, but he plays
    like him).

Did her keyboard player fit that description?

| 114.14 | could be | RICKS::CALCAGNI | Buckethead for president | Mon Sep 14 1992 18:00 | 10 |
| | To be honest I didn't pay much attention to the keyboard player, but
it may have been the person you describe. They also had a
percussionist. Arrangements were low key and tight, highlighting
the vocals and adding a very ethereal quality. Lourdes and Adrienne
blended incredibly on some of the harmonies; I was truly impressed.

Sound for this and most other live acts at the festival was superb
    btw.

| 114.15 | Just talked to her | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | db | Fri Oct 09 1992 16:18 | 19 |
| | Here's an update: she has not put out any tapes since "Eight Winds"
which is probably about 4 years old now. She has "tons" of material
but didn't want to go "the 4 track route" again and this time she's
working in dribs and drabs in a 24 track studio toward the goal of
putting out a CD - sounds like she records whenever she can put
together the bucks for the studio time.

Her next gig is 11/9 but I don't have all the details on it yet. I
will post them when I get them.

We're also thinking of putting together a (one-time) duo gig in the NH
area, to make it easier for you NH-ites to see her.

As I've said before, I think this is one of the most talented
singer/songwriters I've come across and if you like folk music
that is a bit more ambitious and sophisticated than songs about
politics, whales, and the various cliche folks topics, you
would probably really appreciate Lourdes (although she does have one
"whale song", but these days you have to). ;-)

| | Lourdes has a new CD out called "Now is the Time".

I think it's some of her best work although it is somewhat less
"progressive" (I view Lourdes as a sort of "Progressive Folk")
than some past albums. But hey... it even has an instrumental.

If you're interested in getting a copy of it, send me mail and I'll
get information from her on how to order copies, or perhaps becoming
    an informal "distributor".
