| I wouldn't hold my breath on an album, I heard on <mumble> that David
Byrne considered the band broken up. On the positive side, the other
members said that it was news to them.

If that's true, then they should have put it on Naked. IMO, it would
have been the best song...

| It's a pretty good song, definitely a different feel from
the other songs recorded for "Naked", which is probably why
it was left off. BTW, I don't understand your feeling about
"Naked", I thought it was their best since "Speaking in
Tongues", and a worthy swan song if it does turn out that
they don't get together again. As for the likelihood of
that happening, I wouldn't expect it in the near future.
One can never say never when it comes to band reunions, of
course... On the one hand, all the Head members are doing
all right on their own recording, producing, etc. On the
other hand, none of them has had the success individually
they did together. The combination of Byrne's off-kilter
outlooks, with enough pop sensibilities provided by the
others to rein in his more "artistic" impulses, made an
unbeatable team.

111.7 | 8 1/2 years since the last tour!! | ASABET::HOWARD | | Mon Jan 13 1992 12:49 | 7 |
| I like Sax and Violins and long for a new TH album and tour.
Unfortunately it's looking less likely every day. Byrne has gone
further in the Third World/Latin direction while the last Tom Tom Club
and Casual Gods albums were more in the conventional rock direction.
News of a TH box set is not a good sign either. Hope I'm wrong!

111.8 | New Byrne Album | GEMVAX::ALLISON | Bluestocking sorta kinda | Mon Mar 02 1992 08:27 | 4 |
| The newest David Byrne album got an excellent review in the Boston
Sunday Globe yesterday (3/1/92). Evidently, while it's not a return to
the Talking Heads themselves, it's much more in keeping with the kind
of music they played.

| Has anyone picked up the two-disc 'popular favorites' package? I just
got it last night -- I was holding off for a while as I already have
all their discs. But this package does have a few tracks unavailable
elsewhere, and the sound quality of many of the tracks is superior to
the old album CDs. They also have little blurbs about each song, and a
each band member wrote up a couple pages on the history of the band. I
nice little package -- would make a good gift.

111.10 | Sounds promising. More details! | KOLFAX::WIEGLEB | Rocky and Raging Bullwinkle | Fri Nov 20 1992 16:00 | 11 |
| Does this package contain the original b-side versions of
"Thank You for Sending Me an Angel" and "Psycho Killer"? These are
more acoustic versions of the songs.
I notice it has the early single "Love Goes to Building on Fire" and
the early b-side to "Uh-oh Love Comes to Town" (which I forget the name
of).
What else is of note?

111.12 | More on the extra tracks... | SMURF::STRANGE | Steve Strange - UEG | Mon Nov 23 1992 09:43 | 20 |
| re: .10
It has a couple tracks from a live tape they made around '75 which was
apparently lost until recently. They are "Sugar on my Tongue" and "I
Want To Live", both excellent tracks. They have a 'thin' sound, as
Jerry Harrison hadn't joined the group yet, so it was just three of
them. This CD has great liner notes, like I mentioned before...
Another interesting one is "popsicle", from the Speaking In Tongues
material. And it has the two tracks that have come out on promo CD
single for radio play: Lifetime Piling Up, and Sax & Violins.
re: .11
The package has none of the tracks from "The name of this band is
Talking Heads" album. The version of Love --> Building On Fire is
a studio version. I am also waiting for this on CD -- I hope they put
on some bonus tracks too if they can find some good ones, as I don't
believe they'll be able to get both LPs on one CD anyway.

111.13 | Byrne at Sander's Theatre | DECSIM::HEILMAN | Oh the thinks you can think up... | Wed Jun 15 1994 15:34 | 45 |
| Saw David Byrne this Sunday at Sander's theatre, Cambridgee (small venue,
probably 1200-1300 max). It was a GREAT show!
Here are some notes (anyone else who was there, please correct me!)
He had the same band more or less as on his new solo album:
- Mauro Refosco: vibes, marimba (??), and synthesized keyboard
(also played with mallets, if that's the right name for them),
and misc percussion
- Todd Turkisher: drums
- Paul Socolow: bass
They opened in a minimal acoustic mode, for the first 5 or 6 songs with Byrne
on acoustic guitar, Refosco on misc percussion, Turkisher on small drumkit (1
snare, 1 cowbell), and Socolow on an acoustic bass guitar of some sort (looked
to be fretless). This worked very well for the songs that they did
(unfortunately I can't remember which specific songs they did acoustically).
Byrne's voice seemed very strong and expressive, much fuller than in early
Heads albums, I thought.
Then they kicked into electric mode, with Byrne usually on electric guitar,
Socolow on electric bass. The band was very tight and the vibes/marimba added a
very nice flavor. Byrne seemed to have shed his various Talking Heads personae
(Big Suit, nerd glasses, twitching mannerisms) and was pretty much just playing
the music straight and enjoying it.
Songlist
He did almost all of the songs off his new solo album, which I expected.
I think he played only one song off his first 2 solo albums ("Tiny Town").
I didn't know what he would do in terms of Heads material, but he included:
"And She Was" (acoustic version if I recall)
"Home" (also a very beautiful acoustic version)
"Don't Worry About The Government"
"Once in a Lifetime" - back to back with "Angels" off the new album
which has a similar feel
"Life During Wartime"
and even... "Psycho Killer"
He did at least 2 unrecorded songs, and even included "Moonlight and Glory"
from the Byrne/Eno "Bush of Ghosts" which I certainly did not expect and which
took me a while to recognize.
All in all a very good night!
